February 2nd: BBB spoke to the Brooks Bulletin and News Talk 770 about a popular robo call scam originating in the U.S. but had yet to make its way to Canada. The scam relies on your voice to answer a simple question: "Can you hear me now"? The scammers try to bait callers into answering "yes," and later use that audio to try and prove that you paid for advertising, or booked a cruise trip or other big ticket item and send you the bill.


February 3rd: BBB was featured on both 660 News radio and Lethbridge Living Magazine’s website about Safer Internet Day. BBB’s Leah Brownridge spoke about safe online practices for kids and what their parents can do to better monitor and filter what kind of content their kids have access to.

February 9th: With love in the air for Valentine’s Day, BBB issued a warning to singles looking for romance online. With reports of Canadians being catphished out of $17 million in romance scams in 2016, BBB explained to Metro News how scammers hide behind fake profiles, preying on people’s emotions to build a fake relationship for financial gain.

February 10th: BBB’s Leah Brownridge also spoke to Newstalk 770 about the dangers of searching for love online, especially around Valentine’s Day. Guest host Gord Gillies chatted with Leah about each of the 10 telltale signs that you could be dealing with a catphisher. From saying “I love you” too fast to constant hard-luck stories to gain your sympathy, romance cons are clever when it comes to scamming others out of their hard-earned money.

February 15th and 17th:  As the second month of 2017 was hitting the halfway mark, BBB released some tips for those who made health-related New Year’s resolutions to help them stay on track, and make informed decisions, especially when it comes to hiring a personal trainer. BBB spoke to News Talk 770 and 660 News about the credentials, education and other qualifications gym-goers should be looking out for when hiring extra help to shed those extra pounds.

February 21st: Wedding planning season was in full swing with multiple bridal fair shows and expos that came to Calgary during the first few months of the New Year. BBB appeared on Global Morning News live to talk about five money-saving tips to help brides-and-grooms-to-be avoid wedding day disasters.

February 24th was a big day for BBB, as the March 1st deadline for RRSP contributions was fast-approaching. BBB spoke to 630 CHED AM radio and News Talk 770 warning of scams ahead of the 2016 tax deadline for RRSPs.

BBB also spoke to City TV’s Breakfast Television about romance and catphishing scams.
