Whether you’re interested in limousine services for your wedding, prom, or just a trip to the airport, you’ll want the ride to go smoothly. Hiring a reputable limousine business can help you get to and from your destination with no unexpected turns. Use these tips as a guide when hiring a limousine business.

Tips for Hiring a Limousine Service:

Determine the Type of Limo You Need.  The type of limousine you rent will depend on the event you are attending and the number of guests riding in the limo. If you are renting the limo for a formal event, such as a wedding, be sure both the chauffeur and the vehicle will be able to look the part. Do not book a limo where your party is at the maximum capacity of passengers. This will cause you and your party to be cramped and uncomfortable during the ride. Think about renting an additional limo or a limo that can hold more guests.

Get Referrals.  Ask friends and family members with experience using a limo service to recommend a reliable limousine business. Check out limousine services at to read reviews or complaints.  Look for a limousine business that owns the cars they rent, rather than going through a business that just books the reservations. Be sure to find out the business’ fleet size, the type of vehicles they rent, and how long the limo service has been in business. Make sure any limousine business you are considering has a physical address you are able to visit.

Consider Cost.  Compare the cost of different limousine businesses and find out what each business includes. Don’t assume the lowest price is the best deal, you usually get what you pay for. Remember to consider the chauffeur's tip at the end of the event, which is usually 15 to 20 percent.

Check for Insurance.  The limousine business you hire should provide proof of their insurance coverage for their fleet. Find out if the business insures their fleet under a personal auto policy.  Personal auto policies usually do not include coverage for the consumers renting the vehicles.

Check the Chauffeur's Credentials.  Each chauffeur should provide proof of their valid state license. Ask about the business’ hiring process for chauffeurs. Find out if the chauffeur must go through training, a background check, and a drug screening before they are hired. Be sure to ask if the business belongs to a professional organization, such as the National Limousine Association.

Request References.  A reputable limousine business will be happy to provide a list of previous customers you may contact. Contact the references and ask about their experience with the business and if everything went smoothly going to and from the event. Be sure to ask the references if they would hire the limousine business again for a future event.

Get Everything in Writing.  Before you can enjoy your special night, you must first sign the written contract. Remember that oral promises not included in the contract are not enforceable later so get everything in writing. Be sure to carry a copy of the contract on the day of the event so there are no questions about the terms of the contract. Be sure the contract includes: the services being provided, the details for the day of the event, the terms of payment, and the cancellation policy.
