Paula Fleming joined the Better Business Bureau of Eastern Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont in 2003 as Director of Communications and became the chief media contact and spokesperson for BBB.
Appointed to Vice President of Communications and Marketing in 2005 and now Chief Marketing & Sales Officer in 2016, Ms. Fleming’s position includes overseeing all BBB advertising, communications, marketing, and sales. In 2011, Fleming grew the team and now manages six people within the marketing department.
Ms. Fleming has led BBB to numerous communications successes. She launched the largest advertising campaign in BBB history to support the brand. To educate future leaders on the importance of BBB and ethics in the marketplace, Ms. Fleming has launched a campaign geared towards young adults. She coordinated the BBB’s educational campaign against Identity Theft, which BBBs throughout the Bureau system now use as a resource for their Identity Theft campaigns.
In 2004, Ms. Fleming teamed up with the Public Affairs Office of the Food and Drug Administration and Gillette to publicize the growing danger of counterfeit products to public health and safety with the campaign, "Counter/Act, Don't Let Counterfeit Products Make You a Victim". In 2011, Fleming's local BBB, was recoginized for being the #1 BBB Nationwide in media coverage. In 2012, she lead the team to be the #1 BBB Nationwide in regards to Social Media, specifically having the largest number of Facebook followers.
BBB has won numerous awards under Ms. Fleming’s leadership. In 2009, BBB won the Outstanding Bureau Awards (sponsored by the Council of Better Business Bureaus) for Public Awareness – Overall Communications.
Prior to joining the Bureau, Ms. Fleming was an associate at Collaborative Insight, where she was responsible for implementing marketing and public relations programs for technology and education clients. Before joining Collaborative, Ms. Fleming assisted management in developing and implementing marketing programs at Feinstein Kean Healthcare, a pharmaceutical public relations agency. Ms. Fleming earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Corporate Communications from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.
Ms. Fleming has been a member of the Publicity Club of New England, the oldest professional organization for public relations, communications, special events, and marketing professionals in New England; The Public Relations Society of America, which sets comprehensive standards for the public relations community to benefit the public interest, to be performed with honesty, integrity, accuracy, and truth; and The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, a broad-based association representing more than 1,700 businesses of all sizes. She is also a member of over a dozen Chambers of Commerce. Ms. Fleming completed training with the Disney Institute, a recognized leader in experiential training, leadership development, benchmarking and cultural change for business professionals across the globe.
