I initially contacted Green Mountain Solar because they were listed as both *********** wall, **** panel and solar installers. They were initially very easy to communicate with and I was able to get a meeting with one of their techs at my home fairly quickly. I had a great meeting with one of their advisors at my property and he was enthusiastic and positive about the project. Confident they could do the job of installing panels on my mostly flat roof, as well as 4 *********** walls and a **** panel.It took a few weeks after the visit for them to generate a quote for the project. The power wall quote seemed very fair and Inline with current market prices. The **** quote was insanely high almost $10,000 for a product that retails for $3500, so they are charging more than $6k for installation and markup! THEN CAME THE SHOCK OF THE SOLAR INSTALLATION QUOTE! They wanted $69,000 for furnishing and installing 34 roof ************! ***** kw worth. $2000 per panel or $5000 per kw. I could not believe my eyes. A quick calculation of all the materials listed on the quote came to $20,000 RETAIL! So on top of retail material price they are marking up by almost $50,000 for furnishing and installing.When confronted about this pricing the advisor claimed that additional costs are due to the labor and equipment required to install the ballasted roof mount system on my flat roof (1 or 2 days longer and a lift to move material) and that if this were a regular sloped roof, the cost would be $27,000 less! The markups with this company are just stunning and seem to be a cash grab partially related to the assumption that the client will receive a 30% tax credit. Even with the tax credit, this system would take 22 years to pay back! Double the average time! When presented with all my findings, they gave me some ******** corporate response and sent me on my way. Dont get ripped off by this company, do your research! I requested a quote from a 2nd installer and was quoted $30,000 Less!
