The bottom line is that this guy started by price gouging me. I've had trees removed many times in the past. I know what they should be charging. He straight away sees what needs to be done. He sees that I am pretty well financially screwed due to all of the damage. He sees power lines draped over my house. He straight away quotes me 3,800 just to cut up 1 already fallen tree and not even taking the tree away after. $3,800 is rape to simply remove 1 fallen tree from my driveway. Well I needed it done right away because i need my truck to get to work. I was a captive audience. He knew that and took advantage when a good man would see a guy in my position and likely be compelled to take it a little easy if possible. His crew then went on to cut away a small part of the tree. They stopped there because they got worried about the dead power lines all around. He said he'd come back and finish when entergy got done with the wires. Now how long do you think it takes Entergy to deal with an area like that after a hurricane? The answer is 8 days. I told him that I would call him when Entergy came. He promised to check with me in a day or two.
After that, I found a smaller outfit out looking for work. They promised to cut up the tree, TAKE THE DEBRIS AWAY, and move the wires to a position where my truck could get out. I offered 3,000 and they accepted right away. I offered that amount in order to include a small hazard bonus.
This hungrier group of guys got the job! They did everything they promised. And they were very respectful to boot.
The ******* boy eventually called me back about 4 days later. I told him that it was done and why I chose the other group etc. He whined about getting paid for part of the job asking 1,000! What they did was minimal at best. It took 15 min! I paid him 600 but it was for nothing. I shouldn't have paid him at all. And the kid was disrespectful to boot. My message to him is to STICK WITH THE NURSING!! Do not use this company!
