BBB Announces Medavie Blue Cross as Presenting Sponsor of the Torch Awards

Better Business Bureau Serving the Atlantic Provinces is pleased to announce Medavie Blue Cross as the presenting sponsor for this year’s Torch Awards, taking place on June 23, 2017 at the Westin Nova Scotian. The Torch Awards honours companies whose leaders demonstrate a high level of personal integrity, ensuring that the organization’s practices meet the highest standards of ethics. These awards embody BBB’s mission to promote marketplace trust.
“We look forward to recognizing Atlantic Canadian businesses that go above and beyond to inspire trust in their customers,” says Kris Duffy, ‎Director, Group Brokerage Sales (Atlantic). “Medavie Blue Cross believes in helping Canadians live their best lives, and we are proud to support organizations that positively impact the communities we all call home.”

Medavie Blue Cross is the leading member of the Canadian Association of Blue Cross plans, collectively providing coverage to over seven million Canadians. As a not-for-profit organization, they provide a variety of benefit solutions to individuals and organizations, and administer various government-sponsored health programs. The company’s strong leadership and engaged workforce led them to be recognized as not only one of Atlantic Canada’s top employers, but also one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers in 2017.

“We’re proud to have Medavie Blue Cross return as a major sponsor of this event,” says Peter Moorhouse, president and CEO of BBB in Atlantic Canada. “These awards are an opportunity for BBB to shine the spotlight on companies who embrace what BBB stands for, and we couldn’t do it without them.”

Last year, Merry Maids of Metro was the winner of the Torch Award for Ethics in the small business category. Merry Maids went on to win the International Torch Award for Ethics; the first Canadian company ever to receive this prestigious award. Along with only three other companies, including the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Merry Maids of Metro was recognized for demonstrating outstanding character leadership and organizational ethics. Winners were honoured at a special luncheon ceremony in Indianapolis, as part of the International Assembly of BBBs.
