Customer Review – Ellis O. Wile and Son (1987) Limited, RR1 Pleasantville Unreasonable material loading. Inflated labour. Overpriced. I hired Ellis O. Wile and Son (1987) Limited of RR1 Pleasantville, NS, to work on my residential project in Conquerall Bank. I received three separate invoices for work performed. In each case, the price was approximately 25% to 35% higher than I believe it should have been, even in today's prices and allowing for a reasonable markup. The exact amount is debatable, but the costs charged to me were higher than the industry standard by a considerable amount. I should have received exceptional quality and timeliness for the premium I paid, but that was not my experience. For anyone borrowing money for their project, this translates into months or years of extra loan payments. For those using their savings, it could mean the difference of keeping capital within the household. I requested a review of the costs charged but did not receive a response from the business. I have nothing to gain by sharing my review and only hope it helps someone else find the service they need at a reasonable cost for the value received. Methods to achieve fair pricing include: • Obtain multiple quotes in advance. • Requesting a materials list and arranging for purchase and delivery of the materials on your own. • Request itemized invoices to account for the material costs and labour charges. If you purchase your material from the service providers, you should expect a reasonable markup to cover overhead costs—around 10%. • If an unexpectedly high bill is received, write a letter to the service provider with your concerns and requests. Consumers deserve fairness in the market and have protection under the Nova Scotia Consumer Protection Act. I don't choose my pay rate, and it's only fair that the experts I hire uphold acceptable standards to me as a client. I won't be hiring Ellis O. Wile and Son (1987) Limited again.
