This business is a very old school, **** dominated business clearly operating according to outdated assumptions about it's demographic (People who travel by bus, in other words). Some of the drivers are lovely. Others are angry, entitled men men who simply don't feel it's their job to provide you, the paying customer, with a pleasant experience. In fact, some will work hard to ensure your experience is anything but pleasant. As they see it, they are not there to be of service to you. You are there to be subservient to them. & they will remind you whose universe you're living in if you dare 2 disobey their every command. (hint: it's not yours) You think before you get onto one of these buses that you are an adult & that you have a right to be a happy person on vacation. You think after paying them hundreds of dollars to tour various communities in the maritimes in (sometimes) very small buses with no bathrooms that you are valuable to them. You think they will agree with you that as paying customer you are worthy of respect. But you would be wrong about that. Once you step onto one on these buses depending on the driver ( & the world always belongs to the driver.) you will find yourself in a upside down, weird, shouty kind of twilight zone where all respect ceases 2 b . Buyer beware. You will only realize after you are driving along the highway with a shouty man that you are being driven by a person who believes he is doing you a favour by letting you sit on his bus. You will start to feel he is letting you sit there 4 free. You will not be treated like the valuable paying customer that you thought you were before getting on2 the bus. You will not be treated like the airlines or via rail or any other organization taking your money might treat you. You will be treated like someone who deserves to be punished for something you didn't even know you did. And you will think that maybe you got on the wrong bus. You will start to think that maybe you got on a bus that is taking people to a detention centre because you are getting the sense that everybody on the bus must have done something very bad to be treated this way - to be spoken to, so punitively. You can't imagine this is how they treat paying customer who aren't disobedient. ******* ********. You will ask yourself " was it the new roots brand luggage i had the driver put on the bus 4 me? Should I have told him i got it on sale in an attempt to calm him down lest he thinks me too uppity?" You will try everything in your power to figure out why you are being treated the way you are being treated & how it's possible in 2021 that businesses are getting away with treating people this badly. Travelling for 6 hours by bus is not the most comfortable thing to do but up until this last trip I was willing to tolerate all the shortcomings of travelling by bus 2 avoid the cost of a flight. This time round, tho, being stuck on a bus with an angry man intent on destroying any joy or delight people might be taking in the journey (simply bcuz he felt entitled 2 do that) is, to my mind, way too much to ask of any traveller in these times. It's bad enough this company so richly supported (it seems 2 me) by it's senior population has done away with it's senior fares expecting seniors to take the fall for the losses they experienced during the covid but are now (sometimes) squeezing seniors into small buses without bathrooms in the heat of summer putting them at the mercy of their (sometimes) angry, abusive bus drivers telling them when they can & can't have a bathroom stop. It's morally repugnant. The whole time I travelled & toured this summer (largely by bus) I did not once witness a senior aged person acting rude, entitled or even angry when they, of all people, had a right to be upset- squished like sardines (sometines) into small buses with no bathrooms in the heat. They had every right to be angry. But they weren't. It was the wage earning bus drivers who were acting out so freely with their anger & their self righteousness & their feelings of entitlement (not all drivers. One from the Saint John to Moncton ride was fantastic). It was them, company employees, spewing their misery onto others without any thought of what this would do the happiness of people on vacation. I noticed the angriest one targetted the women who were travelling alone & i really think it was bcuz these women had the audacity to act like happy people on vacation. It was so creepy. So 19th century. But it's clear this kind of 19th century behaviour is still normalized by those who do the hiring & scheduling of drivers 4 this company so this is not just a drivers problem. This is a company problem. The angry drivers are confident their jobs will be safe regardless of how they treat people. I have no doubt about that. The fish rots, as they say, from the head More people need to report if they experience angry &/or emotionally abusive drivers while travelling with Maritime Bus & the company itself needs to become educated as to what abuse is & how customers can respond in the face of it. Everybody deserves a happy vacation regardless of what they can afford or how they choose to travel I would really urge customers to write reviews, make complaints, refuse to support this company if at all the possible until changes have been made.
