Vehicle Vendor Scams Prosecutions

A woman in Brooklyn pleaded guilty to bank fraud in relation to her role in a $5.3 million vehicle sale scam. For two years, Natalia Korzha worked with a group in Lithuania  to launder money from the scheme in which scam ads for cars were placed on Craigslist and eBay.

A so-called “money mule” who helped shuffle money from victims of an online vehicle scam to the fraud’s ringleaders was indicted in the nearly $2 million scheme. Prosecutors said Lonut Ganea, a Romanian national, moved money from 117 fake car sales to 74 bank accounts at eight different banks.

"One man is behind bars while another is on the run, accused of stealing a car another man was selling on Facebook Marketplace. Police said they handed the victim a bogus check and drove off.”
