Queens man guilty of stealing

Cesar Fernandez-Loor, a Queens, New York resident, pleaded guilty to stealing $50,000 from apartment hunters through fraudulent rental applications. Prosecutors said Fernandez-Loor posted advertisements and collected deposits without ever allowing renters to move into units. Fernandez-Loor was ordered to pay restitution to 18 victims.

Massachusetts man charged in rental scams

Authorities in Massachusetts charged a New Bedford man with fraudulently obtaining more than $22,000 in rental deposits for apartments that he didn’t own. Victor Tiu Lopez allegedly targeted immigrants and Spanish speakers, ensnaring more than a dozen people before his indictment.
