              06/29/2022

This occurred 06/28/22 and is still ongoing. Our pet is a ****** Bulldog. The decision was made to have surgery to help her breathing and to remove the soft palate blockage. She had post-operative complications and had to be re-intubated to help her breath and was sent to this clinic for emergency care. We arrived at this clinic (first my partner at 4:30 pm, then myself at 4:50 pm). We waited for over an hour before I went to the front desk and insisted that I see my dog. I was brought back around 5:30sih to see her where I noted that they had extubated her because they reported that she was biting on her tube and swatting at her face. This of course, did not sit well with me as the whole purpose of this tube was to help her breath. When the vet finally came into the room, we had a conversation about pulling this ET tube out of the airway without my knowledge or consent. I had specifically asked to be informed about this decision and to be involved with it as I did not want to pull this tube after my dog had to be reintubated. The vet and I were having a discussion where I brought up my concerns to her. She was made aware that I was very upset. She proceeded to become defensive and told me to not be mad at her and that common practice dictates that if the dog is biting the tube and swatting at the face, the tube will be pulled. She also informed me that this was the plan from the previous vet and to not keep her on a sedation drip. Well, I am a nurse practitioner with extensive management of airways as a previous trauma nurse. I am well aware that if a patient is "bucking" the tube, it means more sedation is needed and not to automatically pull the tube. I informed ****************** Melicik of this and she said she won't be going backwards, what's done is done, and we need to move forward. She accused me of bullying her and that is when I left. Today, my dog is struggling to breath and vomiting blood. We visited her and she is unable to be weaned from high oxygen.
