October 08, 2010
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) and partners, Cintas, Seven Seventeen Credit Union and Eastwood Field invite the public to Secure Your ID Day, Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Eastwood Field.  Businesses and consumers are encouraged to attend the event and take a key step in identity protection by shredding and properly disposing of their sensitive paper documents.  BBB staff will also be on-site to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.

“Identity theft can happen to anyone and in many cases is committed by someone that you know,” said Patricia Rose, President of the Better Business Bureau.  “The easiest way to protect yourself is to shred documents with sensitive information.”

Last year alone, 11.1 million Americans became victims of ID theft, resulting in the loss of $54 billion, according to a 2010 report from Javelin Strategy and Research.
