            BLIND BROTHERS UNSUCCESSFUL 'SERVICE CALL' 05-27-2021 Blind Brothers owner Jim L** and his helper installed ************** remote-controlled ******* (honeycomb-style) blinds for our West-facing 3 skylights on December 29, 2016 for a total of $1,153. A week or so later the corner of one of the frames fell off. We asked them to come back and fix it, which they did, but told us the corner was only stuck on with a sticky tape and that we should just stick it back on ourselves if any of the other corners fell off. (These skylights are in a vaulted ceiling about 14' above the floor of the room.) The corners kept falling off and we finally gave up even trying to put them back on. (My husband is not good on ladders and I'm 77 years old and only 4'10".) A new issue appeared a year or so later in which the top portion of the ******* frames began pulling away from the top of the skylight frame, as visibly evidenced by a sliver of daylight between the top of the blind frame and skylight frame. The 'sliver' kept gradually growing larger, and we became worried that the ******* blinds might fall completely out if nothing was done to secure them. So we called Jim L** who indicated he'd order some gaskets, and would contact us when they were in. He never called so finally my husband called him a couple of weeks later. On May 27, 2021, Jim showed up with a ladder, a helper, and a roll of narrow gaskets. I pointed out that you could now see almost an inch of daylight at the top of all 3 of the blind frames, and one of the blinds also had visible gap on the right side of the blind frame. Jim instructed his helper to climb the ladder and place the narrow gasket at the top of the frame (which did NOT fill the gap as you could still see daylight between the blind frame and the skylight frame.) I suggested they would likely need a wider gasket, and Jim curtly said the narrow gasket was "what we have to work with so what would you have me do?" I said I had no idea (other than the wider gasket I had previously suggested) as I was not the professional blind installer, he was. On the previous visits to our house Jim had been quite cordial, but he was clearly irritated now…so I asked him if he was having a bad day (after just coming-off this horrible pandemic…I thought that might have been the reason he was now the opposite of cordial.) He said "NO" and again asked me what I wanted him to do to which I said "Fix it." He told me the blinds worked fine (which they do) and implied that was his only obligation to our purchase. He said the gap was merely a cosmetic issue. I told him I would never have agreed to the initial installation had I known that the frames were going to look like an amateur had installed them, and I left the room. He and his helper repeated the same procedure for the other 2 blind frames and then left. Their efforts did NOT fix the problem and we will never do business with Mr. L** again.
