I had mudjacking done in October 2020 by Crackerjack Mudjacking in Wellington, CO. The house is a rental and the front porch and sidewalk cement had sunk over the years. I got a bid from Mike, the owner, and he quoted me $1900.00 to do the job. I have the bid, #*****, in my possession. His crew (2 younger guys) came up and started the work but it took longer than Mike had estimated. His crew was having difficulty in raising the porch cement, and broke 3 jacks in the process. So Mike came up to assist with the job and they eventually were able to get it done to our satisfaction. Mike left while the guys completed the sidewalk and picked up their tools. I was then given a bill for $3200, $1300 more than the agreed upon bid. The workers talked to Mike over the phone but could not get anything changed. I asked them to let me talk to Mike on the phone because I thought there was some sort of mistake. I reminded him what his bid was ($1900) and he said that he had been to the house previously to do a bid, the work had taken longer than expected, and he finally agreed to accept $2800 for the work. It was still $900 over the original bid amount. 1) The bid does not say that I would be responsible for paying for any delays in completing the job, or to pay for any equipment that gets broke during the process. 2) Their advertising says "free estimates". I have a copy of the coupon. I feel like I am having to pay for his previous trip to bid the job even though it was a couple of years earlier that I had requested a bid. 3) We started to refinance the property in early winter when our work on the home was completed, so I did not want to have any liens placed on the property for non-payment to Crackerjack. I would not recommend this business! Their bids do not mean anything. Their advertising is misleading. We were never told that we would be responsible for the extra time they worked or if any tools/equipment were broken on the job, we would be responsible for paying for that.
