Complaint: On April 2, 2014, I had a sales representative from. the above-named company come to my apartment for measuring and making arrangement for installation of an 8'x4' canvas awning on my balcony. The sales representative stated "since business was slow this early in the season, installation would be the week of the 21st", and so noted this on the contract. I am a retired senior, I attend the area's senior lunch programs, plus attend other functions throughout each week. For the lunch programs, registration must be scheduled the day before (i.e., reservation call must be in by Monday before 10:00 A.M. for Tuesday's luncheon, Thursday before 10:00 A.M. for Friday's), so I called after 9:00 A.M. on Monday the 21st to get some idea when installation of awning would be during the week. No answer to my question, but a promise to call me back on Tuesday. I called the company Tuesday after Tuesday's luncheon (the 22nd), and the owner of the company answered my call. I explained that I would like a tentative schedule for installation, since it was stated on my contract "week of 21st" (of April), and I then could better schedule my week's activities. The owner asked me "why I didn't call 12:01 A.M. on the 21st"? (sarcasm) I tried to explain the reason for my call again, but he accused me of "trying to tell him how to run his business". He became irrational, sarcastic, and unreasonable because: 1) he had something or someone else bothering him, or 2) his business had picked up with larger orders and my little order had been "shelved" or "back-burnered" - who knows? I cancelled the order and asked that my deposit of $100 be refunded, but he hung up on me. Since I am on a limited income, I budget my money carefully and spend it frugally, so this awning installation represents a planned budgeted investment. I've worked for many years in the business world, and understand how problems occur and scheduling sometimes needs to be reevaluated and adjustments made, so I would have easily accepted a reasonable explanation why his company could not meet the proposed week for installation, or he could have just asked that I work with him on an extension of time for installation. I moved to Greeley after retirement from the Phoenix area, where business is very competitive and customers are treated courteously, no matter how difficult. Are the companies in northern Colorado so well established and lucrative that these traits are discarded due to lack of competition? I haven't heard from anyone employed by the Greeley Tent and Awning Company, nor have I received my refunded $100 deposit, as of this date. I'm 79 years of age, and I sure don't need nor want this problem at my age just a little sun protection on my balcony this summer. Sincerely, ******* ****

BBB's Final Determination: After reviewing the position of all parties, BBB determined that the business made a reasonable effort to address the complaint. However the consumer remains dissatisfied.
