The course was easy for Medical Billing and Coding but when I got the Certificate It is not recognized as an accreditable Certificate. Wasted over $1500 on a Certificate that i cannot use. Would not recommend.

This business is a sham. I enrolled for the online Medical Assistant program, and I have yet to find employment because no one will hire a person who has not had hands on training in this field. In addition, the course materials were sadly lacking and some looked as if they were downloaded from any old internet site. The test questions and answers were off base and sometimes confusing. I complained about this to my online instructor, and her answers were often vague, although she did admit that some of the training videos were inaccurate. In summary, I am out over $1,500 and still have no job. I wrote a complaint to the business, but they have never answered me.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Ms. S****. We have previously addressed the majority of this in responses to two other reviews Ms. S**** submitted in March and June 2022, and we are sorry to hear that she still feels this way. Ms. S**** graduated from our Medical Assistant certificate course, which was written by our experienced curriculum team with the input of subject matter experts in the field. Throughout the course creation process, the ******** ************ *********** (***) outline was used as a guide because the course is designed to help prepare students for the CCMA or CMAA exam through the *** so that graduates of the course can go on to become certified. We have received high praise of the content within the course materials from industry professionals and our students have a great pass rate that is higher than the national average for the ***’s CCMA exam in 2021 and 2022. The *** does not currently require hands-on training to take the CCMA exam, and our course is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the field. A quick search for this close to Ms. S****’s zip code shows multiple listings for entry-level Medical Assistant positions that Ms. S**** would appear to meet general requirements for based on completion of our accredited Medical Assistant course, and more if a certification credential has been earned. While we do not provide job placement or guarantee employment as there are many other factors to consider beyond education to be successfully hired, we provide several resources and graduate support to all graduates. Eligible students can participate in our Career Coach Program and work with a Career Coach Specialist to create professional marketing materials highlighting education and qualifications (specific to entering a new field with no hands-on experience), have access to a comprehensive Career Starter Guide (which also addresses some of those other factors) and utilize our Graduate Services support. We also offer graduates of this Medical Assistant course reimbursement for the *** study guide, practice test and either the CCMA or CMAA exam, up to $243. Graduates who take advantage of these resources and implement the guidance provided generally see advancements in their job search results. Ms. S**** completed the full course and is responsible for the course’s tuition cost. Her certificate will be mailed when her remaining balance has been satisfied, and we thank Ms. S**** for continuing to make her payments automatically each month. In the meantime, she was issued a Letter of Completion, and is welcome to order a transcript or request a letter if additional documentation of proof of completion is needed for anything. As a courtesy, we will waive the $25 cost for the first two transcripts she orders. Ms. S**** is also welcome to utilize the Career Coach program for the benefits listed above, or utilize Graduate Services, who will be happy to help her review any marketing materials she is currently using, discuss strategy, and provide support in her job search. We understand that it can be frustrating when you are not receiving the results you expected, and we want to see Ms. S**** be successful in reaching her goals. We are happy to help and wish Ms. S**** the best.

Weston Distancing Learning is a scam; I was told I can work from home part-time Medical Billing Specialist. I took the course, passed straight AAA paid in full May 2019 and I am still without employment; The Medical Billing Specialist is a F/T M-F Employment and they know this; During the seminar they don't tell you to get a lawyer to help with the contract for your business. I am requesting for a full refund of $2,450.00; I will reporting the to NCDOJ; I just reviewed recent compliant which let me know that are still doing what they do and getting away with this. The BBB is giving them an AAA, they need an FFF

              03/24/2022

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Ms. ******’s review. Weston Distance Learning, aka At-Home Professions (AHP), has worked extensively with Ms. ****** and found that she is not willing to follow the steps necessary to find a job. Instead, she repeatedly says At-Home Professions promised job placement. Likewise, the school has repeatedly informed the student that she is responsible for her own job search efforts. This requirement is clearly explained in her signed enrollment agreement, the catalog she received prior to (and after) enrolling, the school website, the sales presentation before enrolling, and in numerous conversations with staff (June 18, 2018; July 1, 2019; September 30, 2019; and January 6, 2020). Below are excerpts from those sources: 1. The enrollment agreement states, “While career counseling and graduate support are provided to all graduates, I understand the school cannot promise or guarantee employment.” 2. The AHP School Catalog reads, “While graduate support and career counseling is provided, it is understood that the school does not provide placement services and cannot promise or guarantee employment to any student or graduate.” 3. The AHP Website reads, “Your course includes detailed job search information, including resume tips, interview techniques and more. Plus, all graduates have access to graduate support representatives. We’re here to help you throughout your career.” 4. The sales script she heard during her presentation was a pre-written script. The script does not mention “job placement” anywhere in the script. What it states is: Another reason our graduates are so successful: As a part of your program, you will continue to have complete support from At-Home Professions through our Graduate Support Staff. They will work with you as your work through your career starter guide. They may ask to look over your resume, your cover letters or discuss marketing ideas with you. This support is unlimited! If it is five years from now and you are moving and you need help with your job search, call the school. We stay with you after you graduate. This is part of your program. It is lifetime support. It never goes away!!! In addition to your unlimited Graduate Support and the Professional Career Starter Guide we have added “The Success Promise Program”. The marketing skills taught in the Success Promise Program will stay with you for a lifetime. There is no additional cost for the program. There is no obligation once you are signed up for the program. When you graduate, if you decide you don’t want to move forward in the Success Promise Program, you don’t have to. The Success Promise Program is a Career Development Strategy Course taught by a HR Expert. This is a win/win situation for you! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain! The Success Promise information referenced by Ms. ****** from the seminar she attended is also below and states: “We are so confident that our training programs are the most dependable and effective way for you to learn and start a new career that we give you our success promise: When you complete your course and our Success Promise program, you will get a job within six months or we will give you all of your money back. You have our word. How it works: 1). Finish your certificate program within 15 months of your enrollment date and with at least an 85% GPA. 2). Pay at least 50% of your tuition and be current in your payments as you begin the Success Promise Program. 3). Complete all weekly activities in your Success Promise program and remain current in your payments. ….. “The Success Promise program is not a guarantee or promise of employment.” Ms. ****** enrolled on August 24, 2016, and completed the second course on May 1, 2019, so she did not meet the first criteria of completing her program in 15 months in order to participate in the Success Promise. Ms. ****** was subsequently offered participation in the Career Coach program, which covers the same material (networking, marketing, resume preparation, interviewing skills, etc.) as Success Promise with the two exceptions that it did not have weekly deadlines like Success Promise, and it did not offer a tuition refund at any point, regardless of what work Ms. ****** completed. Ms. ****** declined this assistance, saying on July 1, 2019, that she did not have time to do the program. The Career Coach program was explained to Ms. ****** again on January 10, 2020, when she again accused Weston of not finding her a job. At this point, Ms. ****** agreed to send a copy of her resume to our graduate services department so we could review for any red flags. Many suggested changes were made to make the resume more user-friendly, namely going down to a one-page resume and focusing the skills she discussed on the type of job she was searching for. Ms. ****** indicated she was devastated and that it was “like her whole career was hauled away.” Graduate Services again explained the resume needed to be more user-friendly in order to gain the attention of the person reviewing resumes. As indicated by Ms. ******, her availability to do a job search is very limited given she has a full-time job. She is looking for weekday evening hours or weekend day hours. Yet, there are still jobs she can apply for. Per Indeed.com on March 22, 2022, there are 6,879 remote medical billing jobs open across the U.S. Some of these jobs say they prefer experience, but it is not required; others do not list experience requirements; and some require experience. In summary, we understand Ms. ****** is busy, but she is responsible for her job search. Her lack of significant effort in her job search is most likely why she has been unsuccessful in finding a position – and regardless, a job was not promised to her. Throughout her enrollment, Ms. ****** identified several things she was unhappy with. For example, she stated she was not told about processing and shipping fees – and that they were not in her contract. Again, both the enrollment agreement (aka contract) and school catalog clearly outline all processing and shipping fees and were made available to her prior to and after enrollment. Ms. ****** signed the enrollment agreement attesting to her agreement of these fees. Finally, Ms. ****** has not paid $2,450 as she stated in her complaint – she has only paid $1106.98. Had she chosen to complete all five units in her study program, she would have paid more. However, she only chose to complete two units. At-Home Professions has extensive notes from many conversations with Ms. ******. After reviewing them in preparation for this response, it is apparent that the time it has taken to try to explain to and help Ms. ****** has not been productive. Weston Distance Learning has expended far more resources assisting Ms. ****** than the tuition Ms. ****** paid would cover. Weston has clearly provided the services promised to Ms. ******, and Ms. ****** has not provided reasonable effort to help herself find a job. Weston desires to end its current and any future relationship with Ms. ****** and is refunding the $1106.98 she paid by issuing a refund check to the address on file. We hope that she finds something that will fit her needs and wish her the best.

Weston Distance Learning AKA U.S Career institute, is by far the worst and most regretful financial decision I have ever made. They claim that they are an affordable credited online college for those who are low income but I have over $500 of late payment fees on top os what I owe. I have went to a University which was on campus and online but had to stop due to my financial situation. And with my experience with dropping out or withdrawing from college is that you are allowed to withdraw and request online however USCI makes it impossible for you so that late payment fees add up and ends up in collections on your credit report lowering your credit score. I have tried to contact them proving that I am paying off a past student loan from 2017 till this very day on top of just finishing paying of a credit line that was 120 days passed due I highly suggest if anyone trying to get an education but is low income and think they are able to get by with USCI DONT you'll end up in more debt like me now I have a payment owed and I am still enrolled and have been trying to withdraw from their program and "school" for months on end with no luck I've reached out to negotiate a price for the courses and exams I have completed fully so that I don't have to have any late fees or issues I still havent received an answer back I tried disputing it from my credit report and it was unsuccessful they trap you with the enrollment agreement and its all on there. Even though I read it before starting at USCI and times in between I take resonposibilty of what I owe I just hope they do they same into taking responsibility of what their doing when it comes to disenrollment and withdraw from their institution is wrong. Its unprofessional irresposible. When I spoke to a rep as I was taking classes about is there any financial aid or any other way to make this easier for me to pay for the time being they had said they don't provide financial aid because of how low their rates

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Ms. **********. We’re truly sorry to hear she feels this way about the school and appreciate the chance to address her concerns. We can assure Ms. ********** that we are a legitimate school interested in our students’ success, as we have been in business for over 40 years and we have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. In addition, we are accredited by the ******** ********* *********** ********** (DEAC) in Washington D.C. The DEAC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a valid accrediting agency, and our programs are approved by the Colorado Department of Higher Education. We would not have these credentials if we weren’t a legitimate institution. Our school is privately funded and does not participate in Title IV or federally funded plans, which is why we do not offer traditional financial aid. The benefit to being a non-Title IV and privately funded school is that we control our own costs and are able to offer reasonable, competitive tuition rates and low payment plan options. Students have the opportunity to pay-in-full or choose a monthly payment plan upon enrollment and Ms. ********** chose monthly payment plans for both of her enrollments. Our records show that she has two enrollments under two separate student IDs. Ms. ********** enrolled in USCI’s Medical Assistant certificate course online on September 17, 2020 and in USCI’s Medical Specialties degree program online on November 5, 2020. The certificate course has a two-year deadline and the degree program has a one-year deadline per semester; within these time frames, all coursework is done online/through correspondence and is self-paced. Ms. ********** has completed 15/27 quizzes in the Medical Assistant course and has started Semester 3 after completing 100% of Semesters 1 and 2 in the Medical Specialties degree program. We see that Ms. ********** had contacted the school in June 2021 regarding her Medical Specialties account only, which has a different student ID, email address, and adjusted address on file in comparison to her Medical Assistant course, which we last discussed with her in November 2020. As of June 2021, her Medical Specialties account was current and she continued making payments until August 26, 2021, which is when her last payment was received. Ms. **********’s Medical Assistant course became delinquent after two monthly payments were made, as the last payment for that course was received on October 19, 2020. Since Ms. ********** did not continue to make the monthly payments chosen at the time of enrollment, her accounts became delinquent. Please note that Ms. ********** is mistaken regarding her mention of having over $500 in late fees. She has incurred zero late fees on her Medical Specialties degree program and a total of $15 in late fees on her Medical Assistant course. Prior to her accounts being referred to an outside collection agency, multiple attempts were made to make sure she was aware of the balance owed and to make offers to help her bring her accounts current. In addition to the past-due balances and notices being visible on her online student accounts, the school attempted phone calls, sent emails, and sent letters in regards to this for each account. USCI does this because we understand that sometimes unexpected circumstances arise or finances may become challenging, and the school wants to do its best to work with students to avoid further collection efforts. With that being said, we do need to hear from students in order to work with them on payment arrangements. When our attempts to assist Ms. ********** remained unanswered, the accounts were referred to an outside collection agency. Ms. ********** mentions the enrollment agreement, which is the student’s contract with the school. This enrollment agreement and the website she used to process her enrollments outlined the cost of the course and program she enrolled into, as well as the cancellation policies for both. Our practices are regulated and our policies are outlined in these places, the student catalog, and through various school representatives such as Admissions and Student Services, who are available to answer questions and provide clarification for students. This is to ensure that both prospective students looking at education options as well as currently enrolled students have the information they need at their fingertips. Additionally, students have a five-day review period that starts at the time of their enrollment. We understand that students are investing their time and money when they choose to take a course and we want it to be a good fit. During the review period, students may review their course content, online student account that is created upon enrollment, and enrollment agreement, as well as utilize the resources mentioned above for questions. Based on all of this and her comment about reviewing the enrollment agreement, Ms. ********** was aware of the tuition and payment obligations she assumed by choosing to process both enrollments. As we mentioned above, USCI had not heard from Ms. ********** since June 2021 on her Medical Specialties enrollment until we received an email towards the end of last week. In that email, she acknowledged that she had not made payments or completed courses for months on end, requested a statement for courses and exams she had completed to make a payment on what she owes, and asked to cancel the Medical Specialties program. She then submitted this review to the BBB prior to receiving a response from the school and we regret that we did not have the opportunity to address all of this directly with her sooner. On Monday, February 7, 2022, our Registrar responded to Ms. ********** to provide confirmation that the Medical Specialties program had been cancelled per her request and the tuition balance lowered accordingly, a breakdown of the cancellation obligation, and offered her a payment arrangement to bring the account current and out of collections for less than the past-due balance on the account. She was also offered lower payments than the standard $139 for a start of three months on this enrollment once the account is current. We have not discussed arrangements for her Medical Assistant enrollment at this time. We are awaiting a response from Ms. ********** regarding her Medical Specialties account and would be happy to help with options on her Medical Assistant account as well. We hope this provides some clarification, look forward to working with Ms. **********, and we wish her the best.

I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. This program doesn’t offer ANY online classes. You teach yourself. They say if you need help you can email your instructor but it takes at least 24 hours before someone calls you back. They claim it’s a self paced, of course it is because you can never get anyone while you are actually doing the course. I am highly disappointed in this program. I’ve had to pay someone outside of this school to get the training I need. If you are able to teach yourself then this might work for you. But as visual learner it doesn’t. There are issues as well with wrong information in there booklets. Also the program they use for the billing part doesn’t work. It’s not reassuring when you reach out to your instructor for help and they tell you “yes for some reason that portion of posting payments doesn’t work” So how do you expect people to actually learn. As you can tell I am very unsatisfied with this program.

              07/09/2021

Hi Alicia, We are sorry to hear you feel this way. As an online, distance education school, we offer email, private messaging and phone contact between our students and faculty. We are pleased to have offered quality education for over 40 years, and we understand that this type of school setting may not be for everyone. However, as you mentioned, the studies are self-paced which offers the benefit of allowing students to take as much time as they need to master content, take the open-book quizzes, ask questions, etc., without having classes to attend or schedules to keep. We provide support to students as they need and our records show that the last phone request by Student Services to reach out to you by an instructor was returned to you in less than 10 minutes and they reached your voicemail, so they followed up with a lengthy private message in an attempt to provide you with additional information that may help you complete your coding course. Instructors do strive to return contact as quickly as possible, and a 24 hour turnaround time or less during business hours is always our goal. Instructors are assisting other students and grading exams during their business hours and also attempt to accommodate students outside of those hours by appointment. Our lessons are set up step-by-step to aid in building a student’s knowledge, but we understand there will be content that may be more challenging for one student vs another based on background knowledge, time between studies, etc. As your instructor had mentioned, E/M coding can be the more challenging content in this program and they provided some resources and are still here to help you as you work to finish the program. While we do not offer in-classroom or follow along video instruction due to the nature of our programs, we do our best to support students and organize materials to attempt to set students up for success. In review of the message regarding billing software – we apologize if there was any confusion; the instructor mentioned the payment process in that system worked correctly and hoped that the correspondence and detailed steps she messaged you in response to your question helped you complete that quiz. Although you have advised that distance education in our setting is not the best fit for your learning style, you have worked hard and only have three quizzes remaining to complete the ******* ****** *** ******* ******* ** *** ********** ************* program. We want to help you accomplish this and while we do not have traditional classroom options to provide, your instructors are still here to answer questions and provide any support you need to do so by phone, message or email. At this time, we have discounted your remaining tuition balance through Course 4 so you are paid in full through this course. You have done well and have an *** ***, which is a testament to your hard work and persistence in completing what you started, and we want to see you reach your goals. (Please be aware: if you would prefer not to continue on to the ******* ************* ******* ** *** ********** ************* program, please notify the Student Services department and we can adjust your account so that it does not trigger out to you upon the submission of Quiz 27 in the ******* ****** portion.) Best wishes, At-Home Professions
