I only require a comfortable bed, a working bathroom and a clean room but was disappointed to find none of these at the Silver Spruce. This motel is super adorable and could be a retro gem. It has an excellent location too. The downside is it is the worst maintained, dirtiest, and most run down place I could imagine. I planned to stay here for an extended period of time because I’m working in Glenwood springs but canceled because I was having allergies from the dirty room. Originally I was given a double queen room. It was ok. It was a bit dirty and I saw a couple of bugs that i suspected were bedbugs but I didn’t want to overreact. They kept me there for a week and a few days. Then they moved me to the budget room because this was the room I had reserved and one had become available. It was very dirty. In addition plumbing was in desperate need of repair. The shower wasn’t draining, the toilet wasn’t working well (It required a practice flush because the flipper was worn out). The carpet was covered in dirty spots. The walls had dark streaks. The mattress was thin, uncomfortable and worn out. I also observed signs of bed bugs. The one night I managed to stay in that room was miserable. I even considered sleeping in my car. In the end the manager changed my reservation to weekly instead of monthly and said she would refund the remaining balance. This didn’t happen. A small portion was returned in the end. I’m assuming that she kept the damage deposit for the problems she observed in the room. Even though they all took several decades to develop. I haven’t called her to request a larger refund because it’s obvious from the state of this motel that she’s doing a very poor job maintaining this business and is in severe denial that it’s so very bad.
