Complaint: I had a car that was repossessed in 2003 but it shows that I still owe on it. I tried to pay i toff a couple of months ago but they refused to letme. I am trying to buy a home and when they pulled my credit it shows that a loan I opened in 1997 at First National Bank in Fort Collins still has a balance due on it. The car was repossessed in de ecember 2002 and they in turn said they charged it off. Now it is showing I still owe a balance on the car and when I went to pay it off even though there should be no balance they told me I couldnt pay it and refused to close the account.

Desired Settlement: i WANT TO GET THIS REMOVED FROM MY CREDIT REPORT.

Business Response: Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2012/12/05) */ First National Bank tried to collect on the remaining balance of this loan after the sale of the car with no success. Per regulation, a bank has up to 7 years to report the loan as a loss. In 2008 (well within our time limit) the loan was deemed uncollectable and reported to the IRS. First National Bank has deemed this as a correctly reported loan. Consumer Response /* (3000, 12, 2012/12/07) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) All I wanted to pay was the remaining balance to show as a zero balanced and paid.They wont let me pay the balance to zero it out.The original start of the loan was in 1997 was closed out in 2002 so what the bank is saying is they can ding my credit report for over 15 years. Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2012/12/12) */ A Bank rep will contact Mr. ****** to personally speak to him to resolve this issue.

BBB's Final Determination: Business offered a resolution. Consumer did not pursue further with BBB and the matter was assumed to be resolved
