Finding Financial Aid

Beware of companies that offer to help file financial aid applications-

Filling out the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is just that FREE!

Even if you want someone else to do the actual work, you will still need to provide the financial information.

Be wary if they guarantee awards.

Read the contract carefully to be sure there aren’t limitations to implied guaranteed refunds if financial aid is not found.

What is better to do?

Talk to a financial professional to determine what your child’s educational financial needs are/will be.

Talk to the financial aid counselor at your child’s high school or college. They will often provide assistance and this will be free. Or contact the state education department for state and local aid information.

Understand the differences between the 3 categories of financial aid-

Grants and scholarships

Loans
