We went through carpet city for the flooring throughout our new build home in 2017. The material we picked out was of good quality, but the labor of the install by whom we were told was one of their best subcontractors (**** *****) was very amateur at best. This was our first home build so we were initially a bit naive to some quality aspects of the final build product. Everything looked decent at first. The tile work was fine but not shimmed to be symmetrical throughout. The flooring was good, but none of the transitions between change of flooring from luxury vinyl to tile in the bathrooms or mudroom were level or smooth. These were all cosmetic issues that were swept under the rug and we lived with them. Then what was behind the cosmetics failed... DRASTICALLY. First the shower caulk, rather than grout, which is what is supposed to be used, at the base and top of our tile shower began to peel. After only 6 months. ****, annoyed by the inconvenience, repaired it and reminded me that the entire shower is waterproof behind the tile. So this is not a big deal and is not a crucial or important fix, in his judgment. Then the tile on the raised open entry began to lift and separated at 18 months. I had time and was leery of ****, so I fixed it myself. He had used compound joint for the insulation of the tile...which is not waterproof... And it's in a shower... So I used waterproof landscaping mortar and grout and sealed it... **********. Like how a shower should be. Then at 2.5 years I finally had a leak from my $15,000 shower into the basement. I called **** and he looked over his work. He came up with the most cobbled up plan to try and salvage his already disaster job and I told him to leave and I'll get someone to do it right. The entire bench he installed was letting water through it at 3 different spots, and his waterproofing under his tile work was lacking any waterproofing whatsoever. My new flooring guy was in shock. Literally. After I demolished the bathroom, I found that the lower 2 feet of the entire shower was soaked at the cement board and mold was starting around the entire bench and at the doorway. $14,000 later and a partial insurance claim, I finally have a shower that will last longer than a pair of shoes. Carpet city needs to fire **** ***** and I recommend noone ever gets work done by him. Not even for their dog bath. "
