I purchased a new 2013 GMC Terrain from this dealership and had routine maintenance completed on the vehicle. In July of 2014, the vehicle started jumping while driving. I was told the timing chain needed to be replaced, which I paid to have done. The repair came with a 2 year warranty. The vehicle started exhibiting the exact same issues. I took it back to the dealership and they fixed the issue under the warranty. They recommended we start an oil consumption study to make sure there wasnt something else causing the problem. We abided by that study, and were never told anything was wrong each time it was checked. Once again, the vehicle began having the same problems in mid June of 2023. I took it in to be evaluated and stated that it was having the exact same issues as before and that the previously replaced part was still under warranty. I shared concerns about repeated problems. I was told that it came in low on oil. I said that didnt make sense because the oil had just been checked and was registering at 70% on the monitor. They told me it was three quarts low on oil. I said that the vehicle had been parked and not driven and it didnt make sense that in a few days it would lose that much oil. After requesting an itemized list of repairs, I was informed that their system does not have a way of sending itemized estimates. They stated the piston rings allowing blow by is the root cause of oil consumption and the car being 3 quarts low on oil. All the other seals, gaskets, hardware, chains, fluids, etc. are what need to get replaced with the piston job - some for the first time, some again even after previous replacement. Total initial cost estimate is $4,282.90 plus tax and shop supplies. I was told it was an initial estimate and not a guaranteed total. They are refusing to repair this under warranty and I researched that there have been class action lawsuits against GMC vehicles for this same issue that have caused significant engine damage.
