Complaint: In early November 2012 I inquired about satellite internet service. I said I would like to subscribe later in the month. They took all of my information at that time. I received my credit card bill in mid-November and I was already being charged for the service. They connected my service before the end of November. I was to receive 10GB service for $49 a month + $10 equipment fees. The installer even verified to me that I had 10GB service. I signed the needed paperwork before the installer left, and he took all copies with him. That evening my computer did a number of updates. I checked my usage that night. I had used about 1.14??GB of service with all of the updates that I downloaded for my computer. Then I also seen that I only had 5GB of srevice. When I inquired about it with Star Connections the following morning, they told me that I subscribed to 5GB service. After a number of phone calls back and forth with various people from Star Connections, they admitted that I should have had 10MB service but could do nothing about it unless I would pay an additional $10 a month for the 10GB service. I then cancelled the service with them verbally, I also emailed my intentions to them and also mailed them through the postal service the same letter. I also put a stop payment on the check I wrote to the installer. I believed I was granted the Wisconsin Consumer Protection law of the 3-day right to cancel in this regard, especially since the service was misrepresented. After demanding a copy of the contract I signed, I did receive it later that evening through the email. I removed all of the equipment from my property and a representative from Star Connections picked it up 2 days later. Since that time I received harrassing phone calls from Start Connections, **** *******, and now a collection agency demanding that I pay the $420 cancellation fee. I am afraid that this whole incident may be affecting my credit history since it is now in the hands of a collection agency.
Desired Settlement: I would like this whole incident resolved with an apology from Star Connections and if my credit history has been affected, to reverse their mistake as well.
