Complaint: Within 1000 miles I found out the motor was defective and is burning 1 quart of oil every 200-300 miles. After having a dealership replace the filter and fill the the oil since it was empty I found out other defects. Tie rod needed to be replaced and 1 of the struts are bad. There should have been an inspection on the vehicle that was never even the tires had the wrong tire pressure as little as 15psi. I expect the items to be fixed since it was sold under no inspection for major defects.

Desired Settlement: I expect the Cadillac to be fixed to how it should have left the lot with no defects.

Business Response:

The purpose of this email is to respond to Ms. *** ******’s complaint regarding her purchase of the **** ******** *** from Dane County Auto Sales, Inc.  The BBB has assigned the complaint the reference number *******.


Please note I have attached several documents to this email.  The first page is the Repair Order generated by our Service Department when they performed the initial inspection of the vehicle.  Contrary to Ms. *** ******’s assertion, the Cadillac was fully inspected as required by Wisconsin law.  You will also find a copy of the Wisconsin Buyer’s Guide that was attached to the window of the vehicle.  Please note that the vehicle was sold “AS-IS-NO WARRANTY” as the dealership did not mark the box in the lower left corner indicating any warranty.  You will also find a copy of first page of the Auto Check (a “CarFax” like service provided by TransUnion) and a copy of the first page of the CarFax, both signed by Ms. *** ******.  Finally, you will find a copy of the Purchase Contract where it once again indicates the sale is “AS-IS”.


The dealership was unaware of any major defect in the engine which would cause it to burn oil at a rate of one quart per 200-300 miles.  The inspection and testing of the engine revealed no excessive oil consumption. 


The other items Ms. *** ****** indicates are maintenance items.  The struts and tie rods will wear over time.  The vehicle is a 7 year old vehicle with ******* miles on it at the time of sale.  While they may have needed replacing, they did not prevent normal operation nor render the vehicle unfit for operation.  While we sympathize with Ms. *** ******, we do not replace all wear and tear items on our used inventory.


As a measure of good will, the dealership is willing to replace the bad strut at no cost to Ms. *** ******.  The dealership will also perform additional diagnostic testing on the engine to determine whether the oil consumption issue can be identified.

I received everything expected and more from dane county auto.  They replaced my ty rods and struts.  They also did a diagnostic and an engine flush to find my engine was just old and would need a quart of oil in between each oil change.  Dane county auto even went above and beyond by fixing my blinker, fog light, and hatch.  The manager mark and bob from the body shop were personable and extremely accommodating.  The only person I had a problem with was ***** the salesman he was very short with me and had me transferred 4 times before I could ever reach him.
