State inspection employee said brakes faulty without testing, tried to charge $50 for brake test (should come with inspection) and asked for bribe.
I took my Black 2002 Dodge Durango in for State Inspection Friday, May 31 at about 4:45. After the employee pulled my vehicle into the garage (he drove it about 10 feet from where I had parked in front of the building to the garage) the employee called me into the shop and told me that my brakes didn't work properly. I asked how he knew they weren't working properly and he said that he drives cars all the time and they just felt bad. He didn't do any standard or approved tests on the brakes to see if they were actually faulty, as he is supposed to do with a state inspection according to my research in the Texas State Inspection handbook. He then said: "If you slip me a tip, I can slap a sticker on it for you." He blatentently asked for a bribe. I was shocked at what I heard and did not respond. Then he told me that he could do the brake check for $50. He was unable to explain exactly what they do in a brake check until another employee came out and explained it to me. I told them that I would have to talk it over with my husband. He pulled the car out for me and I left since they said I was clear to go. I drove to another shop to see what they thought about the brakes and they said they were fine and my vehicle passed *** State Inspection easily.

This may have been the fault of this single employee, and unfortunately I didn't catch his name since I was so flustered over the ordeal. I couldn't let this incident go unreported.

All I ask is that this case is investigated and that this employee and business is unable to try to swindle other customers.

Dear Mrs. *****,
I would like to begin by extending a thank you for bringing this complaint to my attention. Danny Foix Enterprises is a BBB accredited business with an A+ rating. It is neither our practice nor our policy to act in a manner such as this. I strive to give my customers the best service possible and have done so for the past 40 years in business. A complaint of this magnitude has my full attention and action has been taken to resolve the issue.
The employee in question, *****, inspected your Dodge on May 31, 2013. I confronted him with the accusations being made against him and his reply was diligent. ***** stated that he definitely drove the vehicle in the brake test area located next door on the Tractor Supply Company parking lot. He also stated that the brakes were grabbing and had a lot of play so he informed the customer that her brakes needed to be checked further. ***** denies he ever bribed the customer and could not recall anything that he said that could have been mistaken for such. He persistently denied all accusations and stated he was only trying to do his job.
I am not naïve and I do know what employees are capable of. I pray that the accusations being made are not really happening. I work side by side with all of my employees every day. I cannot and will not tolerate that kind of behavior from any of my employees.
I have had no other complaints on *****. He has been a very good employee - (as far as I know). I do appreciate the fact that you brought this to my attention. I receive a huge amount of praise and very few complaints. I give as much, if not more, attention to any negative comments as I do to positive praise. With this said, the following actions will be pursued:
- Investigation of this complaint will continue until I am confident of what happened
- Each employee will be under closer observation and dealt with accordingly
- People generally repeat their actions - whether positive or negative. Traps will be set and employees will be tested to maintain professionalism and excellent customer service skills.
