My experience with MRC was like those shared by other reviewers and I feel an obligation to add my warning to theirs. The business model is based on a false narrative that most husbands are extreme narcissists and marriage recovery is completely dependent on fixing them. The data shows that only under 8% are extreme narcissists. After a very short evaluative meeting, I was declared a narcissist and told to enroll in the first of the 14-week narcissism recovery courses. The weekly mens group/narcissism recovery therapy sessions mostly amounted to a browbeating where the therapists regularly committed the aversive interpersonal strategies they indoctrinated us to believe were our typical modes of communication. The groups operated more like therapy sessions designed to confirm a problem rather than correct one. The most problematic aspect of the experience is the work done with the partners. They are taught to put up boundaries (good), but also regularly reminded/indoctrinated that theyve come to the right place because their partner/husband is awful and to embrace their experience as true and completely defensible. That one partner is 100% percent to blame is just simply not true in ****% of cases. Even if one partner is emotionally immature, the other chose them and contributed to the creation of an unhealthy dynamic by lacking some emotional maturity themselves. In my experience, it was completely demoralizing (and the point at which I knew I was done) when my then-wife at our first couples therapy (after months of my individual work and very little contact) declared, that before we go anywhere, I need you to admit that our marital problems are 100% our fault! This approach also reinforces a dynamic where one partner is allowed voice but the other not. As one final thought: why MRC has gone to great lengths to make it hard to leave public reviews or why they wont publish statistics on their success with clients (like the ******* Institute does)?
