I'm fairly dissatisfied with the service department at West Hills Dodge.I recently took my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for a transmission cooler leak and heater issue. They diagnosed the cooler issue as expected, and to my surprise, also correctly diagnosed a heating issue vis a vi a faulty thermostat housing. The repairs were authorized and I picked up the vehicle a day or so later. Unfortunately, the transmission cooler repair was not done correctly and before I got home the car was making awful screeching noises. The long and short of it was that the cooling lines were not correctly attached. I had to return the vehicle and demonstrate to the service rep. ******* were completed again and the vehicle picked up.During this maintenance, I had asked for a fuel pump relay recall to be repaired as well. This repair had previously been scheduled and then cancelled by the dealer due to a lack of parts. The work was not done and no excuse offered. After nearly 2 years since receiving the initial notice from FCA, I finally called Stellantis and talked to them about it. The nice rep said there wasn't much they could do about it except schedule it at a different dealer. However, due to my geographic location, this would have been very inconvenient. Miraculously, about a week later, I got a call from the dealer to schedule the repair. Shocker.I took the vehicle in for the service and picked it later in the day, where I was presented with an "Automobile Status Report." This is where I finally **** the line and came here to file a complaint. Somehow, suddenly, my vehicle needs $3,133 in repairs.Fog Light replacement bulb - $131 Oil Change - $54 Air filter - $54 Cabin Air Filter - $74.95 Brake Job - $800 Rear Brake Caliper replacement - $535.35 Spark Plug Replacement - $673.96 ********************** $289.95 Some of these items, I'm aware of and do myself, oil and filter changes. And, to be fair, the oil change price isn't bad. Doing it at home with full synthetic usually comes in right around there. The reset of these are a joke, and in my opinion, are predatory in nature.Fog Light The bulb is about $8. it is somewhat of a pain to replace, but certainly not an hour of shop time.Brake Job/Caliper Replacement I know the brakes are close, but there has been no wear indicator noise, nor am I having any braking issues. In the write up, it notes that if the brake caliper is not replaced, it will fail. Strangely, on my last inspection when rotating tires, there was no visible indication of an issue. No fluids leaking, just the normal brake dust build up. This doesn't exempt the vehicle from developing an issue in between, but nowhere in this status report was an actual statement of the problem, or photographic evidence of the impending failure. Just a generic statement intended to elicit a reaction from the customer.I've done plenty of brake jobs over the years, and could do pads and rotors for a few hundred in parts, assuming the rotors are bad. How is this an $800 cost? It literally takes more time to **** the car and remove the wheels than to replace rotors and pads. I know what book says vs what mechanics will do and this is at best a 1.5 hour job without replacing the calipers. Spark Plugs $673?!?!? A set of NGKs is less than $40. It's a V6, longitudinally mounted. The right side bank is a pain, but any home mechanic can do this in a couple of hours and I suspect a competent tech could do it in less. Did the tech perform an inspection and make a determination? Fouling? Fuel on the plugs? Again, no actual evidence presented that they need replacement. ********************** Why? There is no misfire. No hesitation. No check engine light. Nothing. How is this service justified? With the exception of the normal fluid/filter items, the rest of this just comes off as rip off make work to pad the service advisors paycheck (yes, the get a commission) and make the dealership some money. I understand that not everyone can turn a wrench or may not have the time to do this kind of work. This doesn't mean that service departments like this can just throw a bunch of random work items together and take advantage of people who don't know any better. It's shameful and disgusting. They don't call it The Stealership for nothing I guess. I don't expect the auto group to do anything about this, but buyer be warned. When you are presented with nonsense like this, ask for justification, photographic evidence, diagnostic codes, etc., and then take it to an independent mechanic. You'll get an honest assessment and will pay less for the items that actually need servicing.I'd give zero stars if it was an option.
