Complaint: On Saturday July 28, 2012 I went to Price's Service Center to have an oil change and state inspection completed on my vehicle. Upon completion of their services, I approached my car, opened my door and found that the driver's side front seat had oil stains all over it. I immediately went inside to notify the manager who then proceeded to call out his staff to see who was responsible. Both staff members denied leaving oil residue on my seat and both told me that I was responsible for the stains and that I had rubbed the oil into my seat. Clearly, there was no way that I could have left oil stains on my seat as my shorts were clear of stains. Nothing was done to remedy the situation by the business manager and I acutally had to contact the owner of Price's Service Center (who also owns a body shop) to have them clean the seat.Further, the cost for my oil change and state inspection was over $94.00. Granted, my vehicle uses synthetic oil, but that price is astronomical. I have had numerous oil changes on my vehicle using synthetic oil and they have not cost me that much.

Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund for the oil change and state inspection and an explanation as to why Price's Service Center denied leaving the oil stains on my seat. I would also like to know how they think they can blame something like that on someone who's clothes were free of oil? If they would have just admitted there wrong-doing, it would have made all the difference.

Business Response: On Saturday July 28, 2012 we did complete a "Mobil 1 Synthetic" oil change and state inspection on the customer's vehicle.  When the customer dropped his vehicle off that Saturday morning he specifically told the manager that he did want the Mobil 1 synthetic oil change.  They even discussed that the Mobil 1 synthetic oil change is more expensive.  When the customer picked up his vehicle later he was given a receipt of exactly what he was charged for: 1.  state inspection:  $16.00 2.  6 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic oil (lists $15.73 per qt) he was charged $9.49 per qt 3.  oil filter (lists $24.48) he was charged $10.48 4.  labor for oil change $7.50 After VA state tax his total was $94.29. When the customer found oil on his seat he did come back in and notify the manager.  The manager went outside and inspected the seat and he did the only thing that he could do at the time to remedy the situation,  The manager told the customer to go and have the seat cleaned and he would take care of the bill.  The customer left and went up the street to a car wash and he said they told him it would smear if they tried to clean it.  By this time the customer's friend had already called Mr. Price at the body shop and he told them to bring the car by and he would be glad to check it out.  The customer took the car to the body shop and Mr. Price had the oil spot removed while the customer waited.  He also went over the bill with the customer for what he was charged and the customer said he understood.  The customer shook Mr. Price's hand and left.  He seemed to be satisified with everything.  We do regret that oil got on his seat.  The person that worked on his car did not have any grease on his clothes; so he felt that the spot was not from him.  But anything is possible.  When you work in a service station where oil is present accidents can occur; so we do appoligize.  We do not feel that a refund is in order.  We did all the work that the customer requested that we do with the synthetic oil he requested.  Thank you, **** ** *****  

Consumer Response: Mr. Price (owner of both service stores), did remove stain shortly after incident occured.  However, a few blemishes of those stains have reappeared.  Further, the only explanation I was given about the invoice was that of the synthetic oil being more expensive.  Mr. Price also explained that he has told his workers repeatedly to use seat covers and floor mats during any maintenance work that is completed on vehicles and they continue to disregard his request. BBB's Final Determination: After reviewing the position of all parties, BBB determined that the business made a reasonable offer to resolve the complaint. However the consumer did not accept the offer.
