Complaint: I purchased insurance to protect my household good during moving. A Lay-z-boy loveseat was damaged during the move. I filed the complaint paper work and sent it Certified Mail. The company has been slow to respond, does not return phone calls and seem little concerned about rectifying the problem. I seems to me, if I do not continue call and complain, the company will not honor their commitment to repair the furniture.
Desired Settlement: Repair the furniture or replace it if it cannot be repaired. Address this complaint in a timely manner from this point forward. Show some urgency and respect for the fact that the company has already been compensated to handle risk of damage.
Business Response: The customer purchased Valuation protection on his intrastate household goods move, not Insurance as stated in his complaint. Our tariff requires that transportation charges be paid in full before we can begin processing any claim for loss or damage in connection with his move. The completed claim form was received on October 30, 2012, but the transportation charges were not paid until November 2, 2012. Once payment was received, the claim was assigned to a reputable furniture repair company that we have used in this customer’s area for many years. Damages being claimed to a reclining sofa require replacement parts to be ordered from the manufacturer of the sofa in order to make a quality repair. Parts have been ordered and are expected to arrive at any time. Once the parts are in, the repairman will contact the customer and make the repairs. We have been working on this claim for approximately one month. This is not an unusually long amount of time for this time of the year when all of the repair firms are extremely busy. ***** ***** Customer Claims
Consumer Response: The move was completed on August 2. I did not check with my company on date paid, but it makes no sense to me why Lawrence Transporation would wait 60 days to bill. When I spoke with ***** ***** she said my company was a few days late on payment. I asked why would you wait 60 days to bill since the terms were probably net 30. She said they were busy. Makes no business sense to delay billing. Its hard for me to believe. Again I have to wait because they billed late as they claim happened. For the furniture repair man, I had to provide the phone number for Lay-Z-Boy parts to him because he didn't know. He requested the parts by email and found out one week later he had the wrong email address. He should have called. It is delay after delay and excuse after excuse. Poor customer service. I will not accept that this issue is resolved until the furniture is properly repaired or replaced. Regards,******* *****
