Clearwater, FL Better Business Bureau is taking the opportunity to celebrate National Small Business Week (May 12-16).

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, this country’s 28 million small businesses create nearly two out of three jobs in our economy.  Today, half of all working Americans either own or work for a small business.

“This is a time your BBB wants to encourage entrepreneurs to take advantage of the many free resources BBB has to offer at bbb.org.” said Karen Nalven, President of BBB serving West Florida.  “We encourage consumers to tell a friend about their favorite small business, patronize a locally owned and operated business or share with your family and friends why you think local businesses are such an important part of our community.”

In honor of National Small Business Week, BBB is encouraging small business owners to take advantage of the many Business Toolkits, Resources & Guides both BBB and the Small Business Administration have available:

BBB Code of Business Practices
The BBB Code of Business Practices represents sound advertising, selling and customer service practices that enhance customer trust and confidence in business. This Code should be a road map for creating and managing a trustworthy business.

BBB Code of Advertising
BBB was founded on the principles of truth in advertising, which rests first and foremost with the advertiser. BBBs review local advertisements and work with companies to adhere to the BBB Code of Advertising, which lays out principles, definitions and suggestions for ethical advertising that all businesses can adopt.

Data Privacy for Small Businesses
Whether your small business sells goods and services online, or you’re simply using your website to market to your customers, having a quality website privacy policy can build consumer trust and distinguish your business in a crowded online marketplace.

Data Security – Made Simpler
Nothing is more important to you as a small business owner than your customers. You've worked hard to engage and secure their trust and confidence in you, and growing your business will depend in large part on maintaining their trust. In today's competitive marketplace, that's more difficult to do than ever.  As hard as you've worked to earn your customers' trust, it can take just one negative experience to break it. Your ability to keep your customers' sensitive data secure is one of those make-it-or-break-it events.
