Complaint Category: Improper or inferior service

Complaint: I had hired an electrician from Fast Service to do an electrical job in converting my electric stove to a gas one. The electrician bungled the job.
I write to you to formally complain and to make a legal claim for the electrical work done in my kitchen on Thursday March 14, 2013 at the address of XXXXX ***************** Tampa, FL XXXXX, the claim is as follows:

(1) The Electrical Work initially done was wrong, the connection was made 6-8 inches off the right mark. This was obvious to the gas connection professional who examined the work done immediately afterwards and noted the blatant wrong dimensions and wrong connection points.

*Your electrician basically came in and bungled the job.
*It was clearly visible. I am not sure how an experienced & qualified electrician could have missed it.
*When I called to complain, I spoke to 2 different people -- neither of them bothered to apologize & were in fact, rude in their tone.
*The work had to be redone resulting in damage to my home including additional visible holes in the wall behind my stove

(2) I am owed a refund of the amount I paid of $287.50 as your copmany is a member of the BBB and warrants the service.

******, I apologize for any inconvenience our electrician may have caused you for having to come back and relocate the outlet. People make mistakes, it doesn't mean they're incompetent. It happens. Having to relocate the outlet 2" does not warrant a refund and also we did no damage to your home. Both electricians stated that the drywall was already removed before we arrived, they made no holes that would be considered as damaging your home during there installation. Drywall cutting and hole were made prior to us arriving on job. Our people are not rude, we sit in an open office where I can overhear most of their conversations. They work hard and they are respectful to our customers. If they were rude to a customer I would fire them and they know it. If you would like me to send a supervisor to look at it with you I would be happy to do that.

I don't know what to say & I am surprised that a decision could not be made. Basically, I purchased a new home that came with an electric stove. As an avid cook, I prefer a gas stove & needed an electrician to help with the conversion from electric to gas. I chose Fast Service Electric (FSE) specifically because they are a BBB company & have had years of experience. Honestly, the price was never an issue - I just wanted the job done correctly in a timely fashion by a responsible & reliable company.

My new gas stove had been delivered the day before and was actually sitting in the middle of my kitchen clearly visible. I had also sent the exact make/model number of the new gas stove to FSE beforehand so they would be prepared when the electrician came to my home to do the job.

The FS electrician shows up (****), looks at the back of the stove & then begins to drill a hole in my wall. He does not bother to take out any measuring tape but instead proceeds to tell me about his recent raise he was given by his boss. I then leave him to do his job, since I had other work to do & wanted him to focus. He finishes & leaves, he took maybe 30 minutes total.

When my gas man arrives a day or so later, he tells me that the electrician has completely bungled the job & drilled a hole where the gas line needs to go! Now my gas man cannot do his job properly unless the FS electrician comes back to fix his mistake. He also asked me why the electrician made such a glaringly blatant error when the back of the stove was clearly visible & the specs of the new stove were emailed beforehand. My gas man was actually very surprised that this even happened. I then called FSE Electric to complain, the receptionist was very rude actually & put another person on the line. That gentleman was also vert curt, but FS never apologized or took responsibility regarding the error. This unnecessary delay has also caused me great inconvenience & has totally disrupted my extremely busy schedule. I barely have any time as it is!

I then rescheduled the gas man who then suggested that I reschedule the electrician for the same time. The second FSE electrician that came out was courteous & worked well with my gas man. They finally got the job done. I have no complaint against the second FSE electrician that was sent to fix the first one's mistake.

What I am more upset about is the fact that the job was not done correctly the first time & when I called to complain, I was treated very rudely with no apology. I guess I just expected better from a BBB backed company. My husband was also not very happy about this entire situation & he was the one who suggested I file a complaint with you despite the fact that he is a lawyer.

In the FSE responses to my complaint, Mr. ***** has actually admitted that their company bungled the job & I should just simply accept it & move on. He apologized only after I had to ask for one. He insinuated that I wanted a "free" job -- this could not be further from the truth. I just wanted to do business with an ethically responsible company. I wanted the job done correctly the first time around, is that asking too much?

I think morally & ethically, the right thing to do is give me a refund. I was willing to compromise for even half. I am surprised that the BBB thinks that it is completely acceptable for a company to come in a do an incorrect job & then treat the customer rudely for complaining? FSE admitted their mistake, they should step up to the plate & take proper responsibility.

I can provide you with a copy of the email with the stove specifications that was sent to FSE beforehand. You are also free to contact my gas man if you wish, I am sure he will also tell you that the first FSE had completely bungled the job. He was also present when I called FSE to complain & knew that they were not helpful at all. He also had to come back a second time because of FSE's incompetence. FSE's records should also clearly show that 2 different electricians were sent to my home.

As indicated before we committed no damage to the ****** home what so ever. We have offered to come and look at said damage with the customer to determine who may have done it. Customer has declined and is only looking for a way to get job done for free. Electrician pointed out to customer and told me that the drywall looked like it was punched and ripped out prior to us doing any work. This may have been done by another trade or may have always been there behind the stove. Either way we are not responsible. Future customers please consider that we have served over 12,000 customers for over 18 years with very few complaints. We want all of our customers to be happy and if we are responsible we will do whatever it takes to make it right.
