Complaint
Failure to provide estimate of repair costs and failure to provide itemized invoice, when asked to do so.
I am a snow bird that owns property at **** ****** ***** **** *********, ** XXXXX. There was a problem with the thermostat. Did not know who to call for service. I went to ******* and purchased a new thermostat. Upon looking at the Air Condition unit installed in the garage, I noticed that there was a sticker on the unit with the name, address and phone number of the installer. All American Heating & Cooling, **** ****** **** ********* ** XXX-XXX-XXXX. I called this number to receive an estimate of what it would cost to install a thermostat. I was called back by All American and was told that they would send a technician to survey the situation on Feb. 17. 2015. The Technician called from my home and stated that he needed a credit card number to satisfy an invoice of $353.00 to install a thermostat, as the unit was fixed. When I complained about the excessive charge and no estimate, All American Heating & Cooling stated that they could make the system not work again if I didn't want to pay that amount. The invoice also does not have any break down of any prices, just a total. This service was excessive and All American Heating & Cooling is taking advantage of it's customers.

Desired Settlement
Would not have had the service preformed at $353.00, if an estimate was provided.

Business Response
It is true the tech completed the call before getting approval for the entire amount but that was to make sure there were no other problems. At the time he called from the home to collect payment we certainly could have taken the parts back out and only collected for the trip and diagnostic of $98.
After the customer called to complain I did offer to go back out and remove the parts and credit everything back but the $98 (which would have the same exact end result as if he had just refused to have us do the repair if we had called before doing the repair) This was not acceptable to the customer he just wanted a credit because he felt he was over charged.I stated our price we believe to be fair and customary with the industry.
I did offer that if the customer called other companies and got a lower price on the same repair I would after verifying it credit him back any difference between our price and that of a reputable competitor. He did not wish to take me up on this offer either.
At no time was I asked for an itemized invoice. I seem to recall giving the customer a verbal breakdown but can happily provide a written itemized invoice.

Consumer Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Without an itemized invoice, it is impossible to receive a written estimate for service and repair from a competitor. Verbal information from a competitor to install a thermostat and fuse should have cost approx. $200.00 to $250.00, including the service call. American Heating and Cooling as me to provide a written estimate for the same services. I could not do that without an itemized receipt from them.

Final Business Response
Here is an itemized invoice.
