Complaint: I hired a contractor to fix the blockage in the drainage pipe in my front yard in August. The problems were assess by him and he told me (all phone contact since I was living in ** at the time because my husband is in the military) that he could take care of it. He gave me verbal estimate of $4,500-$6,000. A written estimate was requested by myself, but never received. I told him to go ahead and do it as soon as possible because the tenants could not use running water. He told me he had to get permits but would get to it in a couple days. The day the dig occurred I was not contacted to be updated, nor asked for permission to do extra things like destroy the neighbors yard in the process of digging up mine. When he filled in the yard after the dig he just piled the dirt back into the hole, didn't compact ANY of it, and left mounds 3 and 4 feet high sitting on my lawn and spilling into the neighbors. I paid half the payment in cash because it was the only type he would accept. I found out what my yard looked like and stopped paying him. I told him he needed to fix the yard and finish the job properly. I threatened to contact**** and he threatened to put a lien on my home if I didn't pay him. I hired a landscaper to try and fix the yard but it is now sinking because the original job was not done properly. In order to repair the yard I have been advised that all 14 feet will need to be dug up again and compacted properly.
Desired Settlement: I would like the yard fixed properly and sod laid down. I've filed a formal complaint with **** as well.
BBB's Final Determination: Business offered a resolution. Consumer did not pursue further with BBB and the matter was assumed to be resolved
