Complaint: We hired Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps, LLC to clean our chimney in October 2005 and while they were here they told us we needed to update our chimney to utilize the wood stove that we had installed. They told us that they would install a stainless steel flue, repair the cracks in our chimney crown and insulate the new liner. We have used the wood stove for the last 5 years and have had it cleaned by Sixpenny annually. Last year when they came out they had quoted us one price on the phone and when they arrived and completed the work they tried to charge us a different price because they said we had a specific type of stove and flue that needed to be cleaned in a different way and that is would cost more. They have been here every year for the last 5 years they know the wood stove and there was no excuse for this to happen. I had the name of the person that I had spoken to and the guy was nice enough to call the office and try to work out the discrepancy. He got it worked out but not without hesitation from the person on the other end of the phone. We were repeat customers and were quite upset that we had to deal with this issue. This year we decided not to go with Sixpenny and we chose another company. The new company came out and cleaned our chimney and informed us that we have had a few chimney fires and there was no way the chimney had been cleaned last year. He also informed us that they did not put in the correct size flue and no insulation in the chimney. He advised me to call Sixpenny because the flue would have a lifetime warranty. I called Sixpenny and asked what the warranty would be on the work they did for us and I was told she would have to call me back. She called back late the next afternoon and said that she couldnt find our paperwork but if I had my receipt she could use that but she thought that it would only be 5 years of coverage. I called a third company and had them come out for a second opinion and was told almost the same as the second company. Call for rest of information...

Desired Settlement: We would like a refund of the money we spent with Sixpenny 5 years ago. To make our chimney safe and up to code we have to spend double the amount that we spent 5 years ago. If Sixpenny had completed the job properly the first time around we wouldnt be in this situation. Also, the paperwork given to us shows a lifetime warranty, however, the paperwork we received from them does NOT match what was installed at our home.
