Complaint
While driving my vehicle during the week prior to April 9, 2014, my husband experienced a loss of power steering. I then performed an online search of recalls for loss of power steering and found recall #XXXXX. We arranged to have the car repaired. When we brought my car in, I supplied the copy of recall #XXXXX to the Service Consultant. He agreed that they would perform the repair as per the recall and that when we received a notice of this recall from GM we could bring our repair receipts in and ****** would complete the paperwork necessary for a refund. We were very clear that as this was an older vehicle, we did not wish to incur a cost for any work to be performed that was not part of a recall.

The requested repair was actually performed at no cost under recall XXXXX/XXXXX However, there was also a repair done under Bulletin #X-XX-XX-XXXA which, when we picked up our car, were advised that this work was also a recall and that eventually we would receive a notice from GM and could bring the notice in for reimbursement. Please also note that on the invoice the comments "this may turn into a recall as per service bulletin on transport Canada web site, payment will be refunded" are not correct as the bulletin I supplied refers to recalls XXXXX/XXXXX done at no cost and not this additional repair. In June of 2014 I received a letter from GM and brought it to ****** under the assumption that this was related to the repair we had already had done and paid for. I received a call to advise me that this was not necessarily the same repair we had paid for because they were not yet aware of what parts were needed for this repair and that it could take a few months for GM to formally notify us that the parts were available.

We subsequently received formal notification of additional recalls and had them done at no charge on November 13, 2014. At that time my husband also brought the attached in to inquire about whether any of these repairs had to do with the repairs performed under Bulletin #X-XX-XX-XXXA. He was advised that this work was never part of a recall, but this repair was done because it was noted as a "code(?)" when the recall work was performed and he was given a copy of the bulletin. This information had never been previously relayed to us. Additional repair was done without our authorization when we had been very clear that the only repairs we requested were the ones that were part of a recall and was told that they were required to do work if it came up during other repairs.

We have attempted on several occasions to resolve this directly with ****** and have been told that there is nothing that can be done for us.

Desired Settlement
$***.94 - cost of unauthorized repairs.

Business Response
We are in the process of reimbursing the customer the funds in anticipation that GM will complete the Service Bulletin as either a warrantable item or a recall. Our Service Manager will contact the customer directly by the end of this week, if not sooner.
