Mid-10/2021, Trailside Dry Cleaning in Sandy, UT accepted dry cleaning care for a Kylie Sequin Animal Print Jacket purchased from Alice & Olivia (original price $995; purchased for $248.75 2/2020). Jacket was worn two times (10/10/2021, 10/31/2021). A verbal confirmation that the item could be dry cleaned was obtained by the employee accepting the item and that they clean sequined items including Prom and wedding gowns regularly. On 10/21/2021, jacket was picked up; total bill $70.19 (included other items). Instructions on the garment indicated "Dry Clean Only." Upon inspection at home, >1/2 the garment had been severely damaged with many of the sequins bent, melted, misshapen, or even missing. The manager (Dallas) was informed and stated that she would contact the owner (Mark B******). After receiving no update, I went in person to the Trailside location Mr. B****** works at and informed him of the issue and was told he would look into it. After constant follow-up requesting an update, I was finally told another person "fixed" the jacket. When picking up the jacket, even more of the sequins were misformed. They insisted that all they did was dry clean and "heat the item on a form" and that this was the manufacturer's fault. I contacted the manufacturer (Alice & Olivia) and was told that they had no other complaints about this item and that absolutely no heat should have been applied to the item. I asked for a written description of the heat process from Trailside. Again, after many follow-ups, I received a description lacking detail into the heat process used. Neither party (Alice & Olivia) or Trailside will accept responsibility. Drycleaning & Laundry Institute (DLI) International Textile Analysis Laboratory can do a test to determine who is at fault for $36 (or International Fabricare Institute (IFI). I was told that if the dry cleaner will not perform the test, the BBB can request the test directly. I have the contact info for all parties and DLI's lab.
