Warning: Stay Away from Work-At-Home Scams - Search Profit System, Money Mastery

Posted Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in Credit-Mortgages-Finances

The BBB cautions consumers to be wary of work at home scams and their too good to be true deals, according to Puget Sound Business Journal.

Two companies in question, Search Profit System and Money Mastery are bad news. Money Mastery promises to pay customers $186 a day, working from home. The other company, Search Profit System claims you can make money using search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN and Bing.  What really happens is that once you sign up, consumers are charged almost $50 in monthly membership fees and canceling the service is very difficult.

I too am looking for some type of extra income. I am currently unemployed and with UI benefits running out and the job market being so tight, I am looking for a legit WAH opportunity. There are plenty of scams out there and I like others, want to avoid them. I have been seeing ads for this www.datacashpro.com and when you visit a secondary page the name in the tab changes to Advanced Marketing Group. I can't seem to find anything on these people so I am thinking to stay away. Does anybody have a legit list of WAH opportunities? Even if it is data enty. Please send to me. Thank you.

I like many am looking for a legit at home business online. I work full time and spend time at home on my computer. I do not want to get scammed like everyone else. I have been trying to research datacashpro. Does anyone have any experience with this company? Your input would be greatly appreciated. I am not looking a get rich quick, but I can certainly fill in forms, etc. Just need some extra case and just not sure which direction to go in like so many others. Thanks

I too am seeking legitimate "work from home" jobs. I am extremely qualified for jobs such as data entry, medical/psych billing, any kind of typing position, etc. Due to my being unemployed, I cannot afford to pay some bogus fee and end up looking like a fool. I would really like some type of list or reference of actual LEGITIMATE work at home positions. Thank you so much!

I work from home currently for a company called Alpine Access www.alpineaccess.com. It is call center work and I have worked for them for 3 years now. It is a legit business. If you are hired you do have to pay 30.00 I believe it is for a background check.Alpine access typically pays about 9.00/hr. I have friends who also work for Liveops as well and they are legitimate also. I do surveys too for one company but you earn points for the surveys you complete and it takes a while to earn points but then you will get gift cards or online gift card #'s for purchases at places like amazon.com etc. The website is www.epollsurveys.com. Hope this helps.

This is in regards to the realconsumersolutions.com on behalf of elizabeth jackson data entry work from home job. Is this work from home position for real or not. Please someone or BBB please email me back and let me know. Thank you for your time. I am also wondering on this one?

There ARE legitimate WAH companies out there, but since the demand is so high it's sometimes difficult to secure a position with them. I have worked for some of them. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to list the names of the companies, but since I'm not exactly advertising for them, I'll list a few. I'm just trying to help because I know how it is to be a stay-at-home mom trying to find work. LiveOps - if you work for this company, you will be an Independent Contractor, NOT an employee. They charge a $30 fee (might be more now) to cover the cost of your background check. This is a legit company and the first WAH opp that I ever had. They may or may not be hiring in your area, so you might be placed on a waiting list. www.liveops.com West At Home - if you work for them, you'll be a part-time employee. They do not charge a background check fee, but like LiveOps, they may not be hiring in your area. Because you are an employee and not an IC, you CANNOT work for another WAH at the same time you work for West. www.westathome.com ACD Direct - I have never actually worked for this company, but I have applied. It took them 6 months to contact me for an interview, but by then I already had another WAH gig. For some reason my email is still in their database and I still get email requests for interviews. www.acddirect.com I hope this helps! :)

Help! I just got off the phone with Lamar Towns of TRUE SUCCESS SOLUTIONS based in Arizona. They want to recruit me to be a rep in my area (NY) to send them names of businesses and the phone number. They give out business loans at a low percentage and if they get the account, I get a percentage. That's all fine but they want me to join for $495 on my credit card. They guarantee I'll make that back in month. IS THIS A SCAM?

Please be aware of emails from Nigeria that claim you have an "fund or inheritance" there in one of their banks. I have also received fake FBI emails that are very threatening.......they say I will go to jail if I do not "claim" this money. All of these emails are scams and should be reported to the FBI ICS dept. online. You can find more info about this dept. on the FBI website. This kind of crap has to be stopped. PMiller

I have read several of the comments regarding home business opportunities and it seems there are very few that are legitimate. I have read that people are requesting lists of companies that are legitimate. Can you provide such a list for me as I am looking to start a home business myself.

Hello all at BBB Online. I got this email concerning a work-at-home business. Id just like to know if this is a legitimate business, or is it a scam. Thank you for letting me know the truth. The business is a data-entry job, and this is the email- realconsumersolutions.com on behalf of Elizabeth Jackson. Here’s An Example Of What You’ll Be Doing… It’s super fast and easy to do, because there are only four simple steps to post your auction listings… Log on to your Personal Account. Select a product that needs listed. There are over 1.2 MILLION products that need to be listed, so you’ll never run out of work! Here’s an example of what a listing option looks like… Click the “List This Product On eBay Now!” button. Your listing will AUTOMATICALLY be listed on eBay. Fill out a few short online forms (simple and fast) to process your customer’s product purchase and select “SEND.” That’s all there is to it! Each listing takes approximately three to four minutes, and this simple 4-step process makes you money every time. Thanks for responding so quickly back to me. Sincerely yours- Mr. Anthony C. Ferreri

Like a lot of people, I am interested in a work from home type position. I have a mystery shopper type e-mail from Shadowshopper.com and they are supposedly a part of National Center for Professional Mystery Shoppers out of Carson City, Nevada 89701. I would like to find out if these people are legitimate or just a scam like most are.
Comment By Ruby Johnston At 5/14/2010 10:11 PM

I tried out the home business secrets as well for $2.97, canceled before the 14 day trial seeing how hard it was to use... 6 months later i get some kind of email notification (was in junk folder, and was the first of its kind) saying i owe 139.87?! I called the phone number Apac solutions, ask the guy about the bill, "Jay King." He threaten to send the bill to a third party collections agency that could report to my credit records if i don't pay before May,28th... I told him i canceled and i don't have a cancellation number since it was over 6 months ago... He said if i could find it then he can send it out the company and i wouldn't have to pay... I then asked for a phone, all he had was a business name, no address, no phone number... no way to actually contact this business.. Is this guy legit? i can't seem to get a phone number for home business secrets and it seems their website is down as well... I am confused and frustrated, It sounds like a scam too me but i'm not sure whats going on... I dont' want to tarnish my reestablished credit.. Any advice anyone or solutions where i can get this resolved

I have looked at several "Work at Home", sites and I wonder just by the law of averages. Is there 1 or 2 of these businesses that are legetimate? I would genuinly like to work from home and actually do some dedicated hard work for the money, but I would like to make money not spend money I don't have.
Comment By Ronald Prewitt At 5/10/2010 8:54 PM
PLEASE DON'T CASH THE CHECKS THAT U ARE RECIEVING IN THE MAIL FOR LARGE AMOUNTS FOR SECRET SHOPPERS!!!!!!!!!! HUGE SCAM!!!!! U PUT IT IN YOUR BANK AND IT WILL CLEAR AT FIRST. THEN THERE FIRST ASSIGNMENT IS FOR U TO WIRE A LARGE AMOUNT TO THEM, THAT IS YOUR FIRST JOB, TO SEE HOW THE CLERK TREATS YOU. THEN AFTER YOU WIRE THE MONEY, A FEW DAYS LATER THE CHECK WILL COME BACK TO YOUR ACCOUNT AS AN UNREAL BANK. THEN YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE NEGATIVE THAT LARGE AMOUNT AND ONCE YOU SEND THE MONEY IT IS NO LONGER TRACEABLE. THEY WILL HAVE YOU WIRE THE MONEY TO CANADA. DON'T DO IT BIG SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment By AUNDREA At 5/10/2010 5:32 PM
Please see same scam listed by Jeff 5/3/10 and Jerry 5/5/10, both regarding APEX SOLUTIONS, both for the same amount $139.87, and both (like myself) having canceled within the 14 day trial. They make a big deal about your not having a cancellation number and threaten to send it out to another collections agency. This company has no legitimate product; they send you an "e-book" (or something worthless) for a couple bucks and then a collection notice months later. Complete ripoff; stay away from APEX SOLUTIONS...crooks!

If anyone comes across a legit work from home business please let me know. I have inquired about several companies and they all turned out to be scams. Thanks
Comment By Lakeita Cobb At 5/9/2010 10:01 AM
I have to post the same scam as Jeff did on 5/3/10 about Apex Solutions. Word for word, they were trying the get the exact same dollar amount - threatening to turn it over to a 3rd party as well. The owner of Home Business Secrets said he has nothing to do with Apex Solutions and never has. Jerry
Comment By Jerry At 5/5/2010 10:10 PM
Internet Cash Machines is the BIGGEST ripoff ever. They say it's accredited by the BBB with a little sticker on the page, but it's not. They say it's only $2.97, but it's actually a scam. PLEASE BEWARE.

I'm having the same issue with Apex Solutions and their "Home Business Secrets" package. I cancelled before the 14 day trial period and now they're requesting $139. 87 or they'll submit claim to a third party collections agency. What a scam.

I submitted a request for the Home Income Profit System over the internet. I've since learned it's a big scam. What can I do about this? How can I get my money back? They are misleading people by letting people think that Online News 6, NBC, abc, USA TODAY, BBC and CNN have all given them this glowing report of success. THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED. Of course their comment section is closed, so you can't get on there and tell them and everyone else what you think of them. YES I'M ANGRY. They may get away with this now, but not when they stand before God.
