Trust In Social Media Drops

A new survey by PR firm Edelson shows that trust in social has dropped while trust in global business has risen, according to The Next Web.

But it's not simply trust in sites like twitter or facebook, it's all forms of social media. According to the survey, when it comes to social media, we don't trust our peers. What's the cause of this decrease?  It's mostly due to spammers and phishers who use social media but that doesn't stop the popularity of social media. Facebook has more than 300 million users while Twitter has 15 million. 

For many businesses who use social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to reach a broader audience, these companies need to step back and examine if social media has helped them.  Businesses have to engage their audience but without spamming. Social media is a two-way street, like a conversation and finally, if you're citing sources, make sure that they are accurate.
