Amtrak saw increased ridership and revenue in June, with the commutes to and from DC seeing the biggest increase.
Ridership in June was 2.6 million, up 9.3 percent. Its total revenue rose 17 percent from June of last year and ticket sales on its high-speed Acela line were up 16 percent, according to the Washington Business Journal.
It's likely those increased numbers have Amtrak's discount fares to thank. It started offering them last year along the Northeast Corridor and made them permanent this spring.
