Snowstorm of '09 Boosted Online Sales

'Twas the last weekend before Christmas when the snowstorm of '09 hit, preventing shoppers from driving to the nearest mall to buy last minute presents, according to the Washington Business Journal.

A lot of retailers pinned their hopes on 'Super Saturday' for a boost in sales but the monster snow storm had other plans.  In-store sales dropped but surprisingly, online sales got a major increase this past holiday season. More people were shopping online the last days before Christmas than in 2008.  A Reston-based Internet tracking firm, comScore, measured online sales from November 1 up through New Years and the grand total was $29.1 billion.

The top-performing categories for online sales were jewelry and watches
