One Big Advertiser Will Be Missing from the Super Bowl: Guess Who?

For the first time in 23 consecutive years, Pepsi will not air an ad during the Superbowl, according to Yahoo News

The soft drink company is responsible for some of the memorable Superbowl ads on TV so why aren't they included in the ad line-up this year?  Social media. 

Pepsi started a social media campaign “Pepsi Refresh” to fund projects in six categories: health, arts and culture, food and shelter, the planet, neighborhood and education. The company will give away $20 million in grant money to fund projects in the above listed six categories. People can submit their ideas via Pepsi's facebook and twitter page. 

Bottom line, pitching an ad for the new campaign would not be appropriate during the Superbowl and could only be done via social media tools. Whether Pepsi ads will be back for next year's Superbowl is yet to be seen.
