Los Angeles BBB Pounces on DirecTV For Poor Customer Service

Posted Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Consumer/Business Services

The Better Business Bureau in Los Angeles has received almost 40,000 customer complaints from DirecTV customers.

A majority of the complaints were regarding DirecTV's contract provisions but even more telling is the company's rating on the BBB website. It's an 'F' – the lowest grade.  You can read the full Business Report on BBB's Los Angeles' website by clicking here

I am a new customer to directv. From the first day of the install it was a nightmare. It was a scam from the start. I ordered evrything online-they confirmed everything- then when installer gets here they end up changing everything. LONG story short it was and IS a complete nightmare dealing with directv in any capacity. They hide behind idiotic policies. On a professional level it has to be the all time worst company for costomer service ever. In this day and age I only hope they get what they deserve. Complete failure as a company. I like to call them the Bernie Madoff of satillite industry

What if every company adopts directv's business practices? Charges your credit/Debit card (without permission) , Charges to lease the equipment , then charges you to maintain it , everytime they offer you a service automatically extends the contract? Decides the bill is far overdue and decides to debit your account without warning , decides a verbal contract is legal?Well if directv gets away with this companies are going to start doing the same thing , electric , gas , credit card , next time I start up a service that requires me to start up with a credit card I'm cancelling the credit card after service is established and paying with a money order

I was with Dish Network & changed over to Direct TV thinking it was better. If it would rain hard the picture would go out. I was being charged more than the package I ordered so I called to cancel my account. They told me I would have to pay hundreds of dollars because I had signed a 2 year contract; so I canceled the movie channels and the payment went down, but the next month the payment was up 30.00 higher.

Directv claims to have over 15,000,000 customers. 1% of those would be 150,000 people. So that means less than 1% of Directv customers have filed a complaint? Why would that be a failing grade?

I've had directv service for like 7+ years , I only got them since they are the only ones to have the NFL Sunday ticket. Most of the years were good until , I moved from Chicago to Central Illinois 2 years Ago.I had massive problems with the install company (BlueGrass). The tech did not inform me nor install the dish that provides local Channel's.It took directv 2 months to fix , they really offered no help , told me it's between me and Bluegrass.Well i've always had a problem Directv charging you to lease the equipmen , then charging 5.99 to protect it , otherwise hit you with costley repair bills.(Almost sounds like a sleazy used car salesman).Anyway November of 2009 , my job was having heavy impacts from the economic times and all of our hours were cut.It was so bad I had to decide feed my family or pay directv.Well I called directv to cancel and the customer service rep was great she gave me credits to put my bill down to almost nothing.Well end of the year my work closed the doors , so beginning of the year I found a new job , but part of the deal was I had to live onsite , and the building doesn't allow satellite. So I called directv to cancel , the CRS lady said ok , I requested a final bill and would pay in 2 payments. She said OK no problem , well less then a week later directv charged my debit card (without permission) for a crazy ammount. It forced my bank account to be overdrawn , Well after failed attemts with directv they told me they can do that for whatever amount they feel I owe.Well I contacted the BBB , Atty. general's office , local congress , even tried the white house. And of course disputed charge with my bank we'll see.Earl Evans Champaign Illinois
