The scammers put up a phony ad on Craigslist asking those interested to wire money but when they arrive at the address, renters discover that the place is already occupied by homeowners. Since this is Craigslist – where people can post ads using cloaked e-mail addresses and are not required to post company names in the ads themselves – consumers should be very careful.
The Better Business Bureau advises when looking over postings for rentals to look for these 'red flags,' like prices that are 'too good to be true,' the landlord can only communicate via e-mail, requires a large deposit before seeing the rental and asking for money via wire transfer.
