However, if your budget doesn't allow for the roughly $5,000 that an in-home shelter might cost, is it important to focus on the most vulnerable parts of your home. These vulnerable areas include the walls, roof, windows, doors, and garage doors. Investing in double pane windows, sturdy garage doors, and top-quality roofing are key elements in maintaining low damage on your home during a tornado.
