Google Offering Free Voice Calls to Haiti

Posted Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in Alerts/Scams

Everyone is trying to help out where Haiti is concerned. Now Google is providing free voice calls to Haiti for the next two weeks, via Google Voice, according to The Next Web

Haiti was the first time the power of social media was used to generate fundraising via text messaging campaigns, using twitter hashtags to postings on facebook.   Google has set up a one-stop page for crisis response, including information on SMS donation, map imagery of the affected areas and a page for updated crisis information.

To help US families reach relatives in Haiti, you can request an invite for Google Voice at www.google.com/voice. You can also check out BBB's Wise Giving Alliance page for more details about which charity to give to and your local government charity website.  To find out more about which charities provide relief, check out this BBB article: Charities Providing Haiti Earthquake Relief.
