Next year, shipping company FedEx plans to raise their rates by 5 percent, according to the Memphis Business Journal

The rate change will go into effect on January 4th, 2010.  Previous, FedEx Express announced they would raise shipping rates 5.9 percent for their domestic and export services. The reason for the rate hike is to offset fuel surcharges.

Rival company, UPS announced in November that they would also increase their rates by 5 percent, also next year.

This is awful! People are struggling enough as it is to make ends meat...i have started inserting advertisements into my packages to get some money towards shipping costs (I use a company called AdShip and usually get around $1 per package).
