Fake IRS Tax Refund E-mails

No one likes paying taxes but consumers should beware of a new e-mail phishing scam, according to Las Vegas Now.

The new scam promises consumers tax refunds from the Internal Revenue Service and even takes information and graphics from government websites to make their organization look legit.

But is surprisingly easy to determine if the e-mail is a scam by looking at where it originated. If the e-mail extension is “tax.gov” instead of “irs.gov” it’s most likely a fake. Also, watch out for spelling errors and the IRS never asks for your personal information from you via email or offer refunds via email.
