Facebook Users Need to be More Careful

IT security firm, Sophos, recently conducted an experiment to see if facebook users are too friendly for their own good, according to Mashable.

The results were alarming.  Sophos created two false users, 21-year old Daisy Felettin (represented by a toy rubber ducky) and 56-year-old Dinette Stonily.  Both users sent out 100 random friends requests and within two weeks, 95 users became friends with either Daisy or Dinette.  Even more frightening was that eight users friended Dinette without being asked.

Facebook is a great social networking tool but if you're not careful, you could become a victim to identity theft.

Here are some safety tips:  Always screen your friending requests. I'm only friends with people I know in real life, my friends and family. If you don't know the person friending you, don't friend them.  Never give out personal information to anyone you don't know.   Check your facebook security settings. Under the Privacy tab, you can control who sees your facebook profile.
