If you're out of a job, it's easy to let your guard down.
That's more likely to happen when an organization shows interest in hiring you, but they want you to pay them some money up front.
"It may be for a drug test or to take some sort of exam to see if they qualify for the position or for a background check," says Alison Southwick, with the Council of Better Business Bureaus
Southwick says it really doesn't matter what reason they give you for the money. Legitimate companies don't work this way.
