D.C. Metro's Board of Directors yesterday approved a 10-cent fare increase, according to the
wmata website.
The new increase which affects Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess fares, is to help Metro balance their budget gap and the fare increase is expected to generate $9.6 million in revenue. The Board heard from metro riders who preferred a fare increase over reduced services before making their decision. The fare hike is not permanent.
The new fares go into effect around early March and will last until the end of June.
