Consumers nationwide are increasing the use of smartphones while shopping. For retail and online shopping, the use of smartphones has risen dramatically over the past year.  While only 28% of U.S. consumers have smartphones, that percentage is expected to grow to almost half of consumers by 2011. How are shoppers using their phones?  Well,

  • 19% posted a good deal to their Facebook or  Twitter accounts;
  • 33% emailed or texted someone about a great deal or experience in a retail store
  • 52% located a store
  • 48% browsed for products
  • 40% compared prices
  • 35% looked for discounts, deals, coupons, or discount codes
  • 34% checked product availability at retail stores or websites
